This is a As2S3 optical window or lens blank. It is 1.464 inch diameter by 0.230 inch thick. This material is used in FTIR spectrometers as the window material because it has an extremely wide bandwith of red to the middle of the middle infrared band. This lens material is very toxic if it is ground to powder. Burned, or exposed to acids. Any machining MUST be done in a glove box, but it could be ground into a lens using standard equipment for processing ZnSe or similar materials provided that great care is used in preventing the dust from getting all over the place. This blank of CVD As2S3 would cost well over 1,000 dollars from optics suppliers if you can find it. I have lots of laser and other unique stuff for sale this week.

This is a As2S3 optical window blank. These were intended to be used for FLIR dewars made by SBRC. It is 1.18 inch diameter by 0.06 inch thick. This material is used in FTIR spectrometers as the window material because it has an extremely wide bandwith of red to the middle of the middle infrared band. This lens material is very toxic if it is ground to powder. Burned, or exposed to acids. Any machining MUST be done in a glove box, but it could be ground into a lens using standard equipment for processing ZnSe or similar materials provided that great care is used in preventing the dust from getting all over the place. I have lots of laser and other unique stuff for sale this week.
