Synrad D48 lasers, lot of 2
These Synrad D48 lasers came from a government lab. The laser on the left turns on and responds to a UC-1000 controller. The red"lase" LED gets brighter as the power is increased. Also. The casing gets nice and warm. However, there is no laser emission. We're guessing that the tube needs a CO2 recharge. The laser on the right turns on but then trips off a second or two later. These are 1/4 and 1/2 adjustable waveplate assemblies removed from Hewlett Packard/HP 5501A metrology lasers. They are made from optical quality mica AR-coated for 633 nm(but should work over a modest range of wavelengths. Though the exact range is not known) The adjustability allows for setting of optimal 1/4 or 1/2 retardation at 633 nm, and to compensate for different wavelengths. They are split into two sections. Rotating the front section with respect to the back section varies the tilt of the waveplate inside, changing retartdation. Since they are made from cleaved mica. Use inside of a laser cavity is not recommended, but they should be fine for controlling the polarization of a free-space beam up to several hundred mW depending on diameter. The clear aperture is about 8 mm. 1/4 waveplates convert from linear to circular or elliptical ... morepolarization.
