Wavetek 3002 1kHz to 520MHz RF signal generator
Wavetek 3002 1kHz to 520MHz RF signal generator This is a used Wavetek 3002 signal generator. It is listed as"for parts" because it's off frequency and the output amp likes to oscillate above 0dBm output power into a 50 ohm load. The output amp is stable into an open circuit. And it is usually stable into 50 ohms below somewhere between about-10dBm and 0dBm. When I first turned it on. It would not tune to the correct frequency, the kHz tuning adjustments had no affect on output frequency, and the output was very distorted. I investigated the problems, replaced a shorted capacitor, and confirmed all internal PLLs indicated locked and examined the operation of several modules. The output amplifier seemed to be the source of the distortion(it is) and I tested it first. After some investigation, the entire unit suddenly began working ... morecorrectly(with the exception of the output amplifier stability) without any adjustments by me. I ran through the frequency calibration and PLL adjustment(quite far out of alignment) and it was almost perfectly on frequency, even though the output amp still had stability problems. When I put the cover on. It was still working and the next day it was off frequency again with no indication that any PLL's were unlocked. The second photo above shows about how far off frequency it is, and this offset is rather consistent across frequencies. This is the same as it was when I first started looking into why it was off frequency. Rather than spend more time on it, I'm selling it. I have included hard copy schematics taken from an on-line manual. The manual was scanned and the schematic quality is low. But they are mostly usable. This unit also includes a optional reverse power protection circuit. The frequency counter and coax cable in the picture above are not part of the auction. Sorry. I do not ship internationally. This Heathkit signal generator has dial markings for 100 KHz to 30 MHz in five ranges. So it would be useful from a bit above the audio range, through MW( medium wave) and SW( short wave) bands. The Step Attenuator is marked X1, X10, X100, X1K, X10K Microvolts. It has adjustable modulation, either internal or external. The meter has Carrier Level and% Modulation scales. I plugged it in. And could not get a signal out of it. The bulb in the green pilot light is good, but does not light up. I got an indication on the meter even though there was no output. It appears to be complete and in pretty good physical condition. The rubber feet on the bottom should be replaced. Internally. It looks very good and clean. I just don't have the time to repair it. For sale I have a Heathkit IG-5280 RF signal Generator in great condition. This generator requires 2- 9 volt batteries which are included can be seen in the first pic. The meter shows the output of the audio output is about 1 khz. My meter is not sensitive to Mhz signals but when connected to a shortwave radio the modulated signal can be heard according to the setting on the generator. MODEL. FEATURES, CONDITION: The Eico Model 315 is an impressive looking piece of test equipment to have on the bench with its large central tuning dial. Black control knobs, dual pilot lighted dial window, and“suitcase” style portability. The instrument was recently serviced, and the old obsolete Amphenol output connectors were replaced with BNC type that will be much more compatable with today’s cables and adapters. The old oozing wax/ foil capacitors were replaced with modern caps of the proper voltage rating, and it was obvious that this piece had seen very little use, as there were no discolored, swollen or stressed components, nor any dust build-up on the beautifully preserved copper plated chassis. The old stiff power cord was replaced with a safe pliable one, and the unit was tested. RF signal is adjustable from 75 KHz all the way up to 150 MHz in six adjustable steps on the Band Selector. Photos of the electronics will show that this unit has a neat layout on a copper plated chassis. Pots and switches have been properly cleaned and work well, with switches positively engaging. The unit has been tested, and the signals are present at all frequencies. The audio test signal is working as well with a very clean sine wave output. Modulation circuit works as well, and it was interesting to have a radio nearby to listen to the beat note and whistling as the IF and RF frequencies were being matched. Cosmetics are excellent overall with a fine gray textured wrinkle finish on the cabinet, clean front panel, and the carry handle is safe and sturdy. It appears to be in good condition and work okay, but because of its age it is sold as-is- it may need recalibration or other maintenance performed. The only testing I did was to select some frequencies on my ICOM IC-761 HF/Shortwave Receiver, and I was able to hear the output of this signal generator on the Receiver, as I turned the IG-102's frequency dial to match that of the Receiver. The IG-102 Signal Generator has a built-in 400-Hz audio tone generator. And it will also accept an external tone or modulation source, or provide output of the internal 400-Hz tone generator for use with other test equipment.
