Heathkit Audio Signal Generator SG-72A like SG-72 IG-72 & IG72A
Here is a vintage. All tube, Heathkit audio signal generator model SG-72A. This unit is identical to the IG-72A except from what I understand, the S denotes it was factory built. As you can tell from the faceplate silkscreen, the SG-72A was made after Schlumberger bought Heathkit. Other nearly identical Heathkit generators to this one include the IG-72 and the IG-9. This unit is very clean and very presentable in your shop. I touched up some paint chips on the black case and installed the banana jacks where a BNC connector was mounted. The banana jacks are not Heathkit originals. But look very similar. Because of its age, this instrument has some minor flaws. Note that the lettering in the area of the INT/EXT switch is slightly faded. There is some tarnish around the banana jacks. The meter face has some haze just above the adjustment screw, ... morebut the scale area is clear. These are just some of the more obvious flaws. Please take a close look at the pictures for more details. This generator is fully working. I calibrated it. But please note that my test equipment, though good enough for rock'n roll, probably wouldn't meet NBS accuracy. Case in point is my B&W Model 400 Distortion Meter which measured less than 0.1% distortion. But I bet my trusty 400 is not very far off. One of the pictures shows the scope trace of the actual output. Included is a bound copy of the IG-72 manual.

Up for auction is used HP 8672A Synthesized Signal Generator 2.0-18.0 GHz. This has option 008 installed. I have powered this up. I do not have the means to test it further. The on/off switch does not turn the unit off. The unit is always in the on setting. The ALC switch handle has sheared off. I was not able to change the frequency numbers on the right side but pushing any of the command switches or buttons. There are some signs of wear such as surface scratches and sticker residue. This will need a standard power cord. Please refer to the pictures for more detail.

This is the one to have. All three options give a variable modulation source. Reverse power protection and range doubler for a 512 to 1024 MHz top range. Everything seems to work with good accuracy. The only non-operational item is one of the modulation scale back-lights is burnt out. An instrument this old will have plenty of scuffs and scrapes, but HP built these like battleships, so there is nothing serious. I included a power cord and a BNC adapter on the RF OUT. BTW. The three spectrum analyzer traces depict FM, AM, and CW, respectively. The CW is clean on all ranges.

KEITHLEY METRABYTE PCIP-SST SIGNAL GENERATOR PC PLUG IN CARD 14105 REV 4 This is a signal generator card designed to plug into a PC and generates either a SINE. TRIANGLE or SQUARE wave between 1Hz and 5 MHz. Amplitude can be varied from 0 to 20 Vp-p with up to +/ 5 volt DC offsets. All this is done under computer control to implement a software controlled signal source. I have tested this board in an MS DOS environment and it is completely functional. The photos shows shots of the control panel software that comes with the board. One shot shows the self diagnostic tests passed. Another is set to program the output for a 220 kHz 4 Vp-p signal with scope views of the sine, triangle and square wave outputs. A frequency counter shows the actual output frequency and agrees with the control panel's frequency counter measurement(see CRT display ... morein photo) The last 3 photos show the generator set for a 3 MHz output signal with the frequency counter and a spectrum analyzer shot showing the first harmonic down by over 41db(Keithley specs the 1st harmonic to be down by at least 30 db) There is a METER function that displays the actual output frequency being generated and a TRACK function that looks at the measured output frequency and adjusts the actual frequency to be as close as possible to what was programmed. The board is shipped in its original conductive foam lined box and the manual which includes a 5.25 in and 3.5 inch floppy with the driver and app software for DOS(Some C application examples are also on the disk and in the manual)
