Wavetek 3002 1kHz to 520MHz RF signal generator This is a used Wavetek 3002 signal generator. It is listed as"for parts" because it's off frequency and the output amp likes to oscillate above 0dBm output power into a 50 ohm load. The output amp is stable into an open circuit. And it is usually stable into 50 ohms below somewhere between about-10dBm and 0dBm. When I first turned it on. It would not tune to the correct frequency, the kHz tuning adjustments had no affect on output frequency, and the output was very distorted. I investigated the problems, replaced a shorted capacitor, and confirmed all internal PLLs indicated locked and examined the operation of several modules. The output amplifier seemed to be the source of the distortion(it is) and I tested it first. After some investigation, the entire unit suddenly began working ... morecorrectly(with the exception of the output amplifier stability) without any adjustments by me. I ran through the frequency calibration and PLL adjustment(quite far out of alignment) and it was almost perfectly on frequency, even though the output amp still had stability problems. When I put the cover on. It was still working and the next day it was off frequency again with no indication that any PLL's were unlocked. The second photo above shows about how far off frequency it is, and this offset is rather consistent across frequencies. This is the same as it was when I first started looking into why it was off frequency. Rather than spend more time on it, I'm selling it. I have included hard copy schematics taken from an on-line manual. The manual was scanned and the schematic quality is low. But they are mostly usable. This unit also includes a optional reverse power protection circuit. The frequency counter and coax cable in the picture above are not part of the auction. Sorry. I do not ship internationally. It's a nice functional signal generator(square. Triangular& sine) which spans one MHz down to uHz frequencies. It hasn't been calibrated in a long time, but the manual calibration knob adjusts the output frequency fairly well. Pictures try to show the output waveshapes, as well as the frequency span down to single digit uHz range for which I am oscilloscope timebase(50s/div) bounded. Wavetek Model 3000 Signal Generator. For Parts. Servicable? THE GOOD: The unit powers up. None of the LEDs on the 4 modules that have them are lighted. The front panel attenuator works as far as I can tell. The front LEDs work. see the pictures) The case sides. Top and bottom are in pretty good shape given normal usage. The inside is very clean. THE NOT SO GOOD: The frequency of the output is not what is shown on the selector switches but it is stable. There is a note on the M172 module stating that it has a problem. The front panel attenuator dial plate is cracked in 2 places. That is all the testing/checking I have done to it. This sig gen has been sitting in my storage room for a long time. ITEM IS SOLD AS IS.
