VINTAGE UTILITY POLE LINEMAN TREE CLIMBING CLIMBERS GAFFS SPIKES HOOKS SPURS
These climbing hooks belonged to my dad. He worked for a gas and electric company in California for about 30 years. He purchased these in the early 60's and used them up until about'72 when he became a supervisor. After that they were only used on the 4th of July when he would climb the pole in our neighborhood and turn out the street light so we could light our fireworks in the dark. The poles are still in pretty good condition. The hooks are aluminum and the spikes are steel with leather binding at the top and bottom. That being said. They are VINTAGE. One set of spikes are for poles and the other set is for trees(a little longer) The tree spikes are taped to the hooks as you can see in the pictures. The upper straps(around the calf area) are adjustable up and down depending on how long you need them. The aluminum hooks themselves ... moreare about 19" from the bottom of the hook up to the top. Klein 1907 arborist/linemans pole/tree climbing spikes gaffs with Buckingham 3500c Velcro straps. Good condition. They have been used for a while, I have used myself and they work great. The length is adjustable as well as the straps for legs and ankles. The spikes are replaceable. There is a srew missing from one of the shaft, I have used it without but a new set of screws are $5-$8.

Tree/ Pole Climbing Spikes Leather Padded Melling Forging Co. Up for auction are a set of tree/pole climbing spikes. I do not know how old they are but they have the following stamped on each of them: MELLING FORGING CO. LANSING MICH. Brooks Patent No. 1956852 Below is a link to the patent that George Brooks filed in 1933. They are certainly used but all the pieces seem to be there. The leather padded shin guards. The leather straps and the metal buckles. The leather is aged and I would be leery using them to climb anything without making sure they are still safe to use. It looks like the iron was painted red at one time. The one upper belt looks like it has either a“06” or a“90” stamped on it. I don’t see any other markings on the item. They measure about 18 inches high and the spikes are about 3 ½ inches long. They may not be a matching ... moreset. The one is about an inch longer than the other and one has three straps to hold the shin guard in place where the other just has two. Please look at all the pictures to evaluate the condition for yourself. You are bidding on what is shown in the pictures. I am sure they can be brought back to life but they would also make great display pieces for that retired lineman or tree climber.
