This is an original estate stamped drawing by American artist Aiden Lassell Ripley(1896-1969) Titled"Bluebills. Pencil drawing on cream colored paper, image size 9 x 13 7/8 inches, c. 1940, estate stamp l.r. framed. This is the preliminary drawing for the etching, Bluebills" which appears as the cover illustration for the book'Sporting Etchings' by Dana S. Lamb. Ripley began studying art at the Fenway School of Illustration in Boston, then went on to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts where he studied under Frank Benson and Philip Hale. He became well known for his landscapes, but during the depression began depicting the sporting scenes for which he is best remembered. In 1942, his"American Widgeon" won the Federal Duck Stamp competition. He was a member of the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society, ... moreand the Audubon Artists and was the President of the of Guild of Boston Artists for ten years. Enabling"Henry Ford" to set a new world's speed record in 1904. The blotter is in excellent condition and measures 9" in width and approx. 3 3/4" high. Subjects covered in Ripley's cartoons and text ranged from sports feats to little known facts about unusual and exotic sites. But what ensured the concept's popularity may have been that Ripley also included items submitted by readers, who supplied photographs of a wide variety of small town American trivia, ranging from unusually shaped vegetables to oddly marked ... moredomestic animals, all documented by photographs and then depicted by Ripley's drawings. Robert Ripley was born in Santa Rosa. California on December 26, 1890. It has also been rumored that he changed his own birthday from December 26 to Christmas Day in order to accentuate his eccentricity. While trying to make a career of his original passion, baseball, he found steady work as a cartoonist at the San Francisco Bulletin and later at the San Francisco Chronicle. He moved to New York in 1912, where he published his first comic for the The New York Globe and simultaneously tried out for the New York Giants baseball club. After an injury put an end to his athletic hopes in 1913. Ripley turned to a full-time career as a professional cartoonist and writer. He later expanded his work into other media as well. His background in sports contributed to his interest in featuring sports contest records in his graphical work. Two"Ripley's Believe it or Not! Advertising Blotters These two Advertising Blotters from the years 1953 and 1959 advertise the William H. Hall Co. 227 N. Tenth Street. Philadelphia, Pa.Converters of Cotton Goods. The blotter from 1953 gives the Ripley's fact that your voice travels 14.000 Miles in 1/13th of a second. This blotter was used and has wear at all corners and ink blots on reverse blotter side. The blotter from 1959 explains that the first"Cowpunchers" were the Egyptians over 4700 years ago. This blotter is in near mint condition with a minimal amount of wear just from handling. The reverse blotter side is unused. Both blotters are fine examples of a form of advertising from the 1950's. Rare~EAPG~Ripley Glass~ Button Band or Wyandotte 5 Bottle Castor Set~1886
This is a rare vintage complete castor set with all 5 bottles in excellent condition. I have washed and examined each of them and I am unable to find any chips whatsoever. There is some roughness under each of the three metal caps which appears to be age related wear. I wouldn't qualify it is damage. There is one broken ear on the bottom of the round carrier. The only issue I see. I have examined each of the two stoppers, and they appear to be excellent, with no chips. The pedestal type base appears in excellent condition with no visible damage. I made no attempt to clean up the metal pieces, because I have no knowledge of how to do so properly. Although a similar set sold here on eBay on March 7th with considerably more damage for $89.95, it may be years before the next one appears. This old music primer is titled Natural Music Primer. But the title page says, Natural Course In Music: The Music Primer, by Frederick H. Ripley(principal of the Bigelow School, Boston) and Thomas Tapper(instructor in musical composition and theory, examiner in theory, in the American College of Musicians) It was printed by American Book Company in 1895. None of the pages seem to be missing, but the book is quite worn. Part of the lower front cover is worn away. The front cover is also so worn that not all of the words are visible. The wording and notes on the pages are fine though. On the first page, a price of $.10 is written. Please contact me with any questions.

Ripley MASCOTTE covered butter You are bidding on a crystal clear covered butter in the MASCOTTE aka Dominion aka Fern and Waffle pattern designed Ripley Glass the late 1800’s. According to my research there are no reproductions of this particular pattern(Reilly& Jenks) The all-over waffle design of this covered butter makes it an eye-catching piece. The rim of the base is smooth. Unlike some that I have seen which have a cut pattern on the rim. The lid fits securely on the base. This piece measures about 6 inches tall. The lid measures 4 ½ inches to the finial. The inside of the lid measures 5 ½ inches in diameter. The footed base measures about 7 ½ inches in diameter. The base measures 4 ½ inches. EAPG Dakota Ruby Stained Large Pitcher Ripley and Co Antique Glass 1885 Engraved Click to view supersize image This stunning example of an antique pressed glass pitcher was produced by Ripley& Co circa 1885 and is part of the Dakota pattern. This pattern features small oval thumbprints around the base and has also been called Baby Thumbprints. Thumbprint Band and other names through it's history. This piece is a phenomenal piece with the Ruby Staining covering most of it's 12" in height. The base. Which is 4 3/4" in diameter, has a small square pattern in the center. The thumbprint portion of the pitcher, the handle and the base are crystal with no Ruby Stain. The Ruby Stained portion features and engraved"cut to clear" leaf design. This piece is in wonderful condition. The only flaws to note are two tiny nicks ... moreon the rim of the foot; a little base wear, and a smattering of light scratching in a couple of areas of the ruby. Embossed clear glass salver measures 6 ½” high x 9 ½” across, base is 5 ½” across. Three or four small chips on the stem mold line. See photos, all on same side. There is no cracks, a few minor utensil scratches on the surface of this used cake plate, one air bubble burst inside the glass shows white, see photo, a few other air bubbles and straw marks noticed. In researching this cake stand I found out it’s pattern name: Button Band. Wyandotte, and Umbilicated Hobnail, era 1880’s-1890’s, maker: Ripley and Co.US Glass.
