This vintage pair of climbing spikes is up for bid. There is no reserve on this bidding. So good luck. Back in the day, electricians and loggers would use these strap-on spikes for pole climbing purposes. The body of them is made out of steel, heated and shaped and fashioned to have the right angle for the spike to bite into the pole as they made their ascent. The straps are very sturdy leather, with a large buckle. These have to be put on tightly, because your life would depend on them. I believe these are from the 60's or 70's. Nowadays they have equipment that can raise a man up and down, but loggers may still use similar rigging. 16.5" tall, and the pairs weighs about 3 pounds. Up for auction it an US Army signal Corps pole climbing set. The belt that goes around the pole has a button with approx a year latter date on it. I'm not sure if the spikes are original to the Army belt. I don't see any marks identifying it to the Army. I would replace the leather straps on the spikes before using. The Belt say's Klein Tools 5266N-22 38-46 with 1-78 date. I tried it on. If you are going to use it a better size range would be 32 to 40 Inches.
