No cracking of the leather. The belt is all leather the best I can tell. The safety belt is what I believe to be a think canvass but is in good condition also. Antique- Vintage TELEPHONE Company Lineman's Repair Authentic Saw for Either Tree Trimming or Lead Sleeve Cutting of Lengths Measures 25.75" long by 4.5" widest point at wooden handle end. This is a used saw- it has a metal sharp end and wooden handle with a bell shape and the word TELEPHONE written into the wood. The saw has age and wear marks. Nicks in the wood, patina wear on the metal, etc.all you would expect of a tool that was really used on the job. It is not new. It is not dated. It is older as you can tell from the bell shape and writing of the word telephone in the wood; not your typical modern logos like are found on modern equipment. Note the"E" at the end of the word telephone has rubbed off, faded. A fellow eBayer who worked for the telephone company sent me a nice email with information I am passing ... moreon to you for reference. when I worked for the telephone co. this saw would have been used for cutting lengths of lead sleeves. No doubt it could have been used for cutting trees. The saw for trimming trees was usually on the end of a 5 ft. pole. I'm sure it is very old. The saws I used were the same width from handle to end, and not have a tappered blade as yours is. I never seen one like this, thanks for listing it. Bell System Catch Off Tool. Western Electric Lineman Strand Wire Support Vintage
Up for auction is a pair of vintage Bell System"Catch Off" tools. These were clamped to the strand on both sides of the ladder when repairmen had their ladders on the strand so the ladder would not slide. Very nice useable condition. The screwdriver like handle turns to loosen or tighten the clamp. The groove in the clamp is where the strand would rest. These tighten down real tight. Nice collectable or useable item. I try to describe each item as best I can.
