From the original owner, who worked for the Bell Telephone system as a lineman way back when, exact age is unknown. This is a pair of Pole/ tree climbers. Made by the Buckingham Manufacturing Company, not sure of age, but believe with the date code of 4-48, they were from the April 1948 era. The climbers are stamped on the main beam Buckingham BELL SYSTEM A. BUCKINGHAM 4-48, WE44114, and stamped 16 1/2 IN. The gaffs are permanent CCA pole type and are 1 3/4”long. The shank is the contoured type. One of the straps has WE89468 stamped on it. The climbers have been lightly cleaned. And the leather treated with leather oil. Condition* DUE TO AGE OF LEATHER. Buckingham model 910. Decent used condition. Worst of it is boot strap show wear. But still structurally sound. See picts Climber set 2. No name that I can see. Everything looks there. Definately the more used of the two pairs. Comes with gaff protective covers. Looks like one rivet popped out and was repaired. Harness: E24 Right 1291 Buckingham. See Tag pict No tears rips or repairs that I can see. Slight rust on some rivets. Overall decent used shape. Seems like Size 34 Waist to 40. Strap: 5 foot long. Minor rust and dirt. Bashlin Alcoa DB14 aluminum pole climbers with short gaffs. Rubberized nylon straps and 105BC Angled leather leather pads with rigid steel inserts and felt lining. These pads are very comfortable when on a pole for a long time. The gaffs/ spikes measure approx 1 7/8" The yellow gaff protectors are Baslin B1972G. They're quick and easy to take on and off the gaffs. These climbers are used. I bought them used several years a go, and only used them a few times. They've been stored in my garage. They're in good condition with some wear and scratches that would be typical for a pair of pole climbers that have been used. There is some light surface rust on the ankle strap buckles, loops, and on the gaffs. The leather loops on the ankle straps have some cracks. The rubberized nylon straps are OK, though. Vintage 1945 W.H. Buckingham Lineman Gaffs / Hooks / Spikes - Pole Climbing
Vintage W. H. Buckingham Lineman Hooks 1945 For auction is a nice collectable set of L& R lineman hooks produced by the W.H. Buckingham Mfg. Co. of Binghamton. N.Y. The left& right hook are both labeled with 15 1/4 F. Not sure what that means and I can barely make out the 1/4 so I am kind of guessing on that part. Please see the photos and form your own opinion as to what that means. The foot straps are also embossed with Buckingham Condition: The steel parts have some light surface rust. The copper rivets all look good. Some leather shows signs of leather rot. This is worst on the little strap that holds on the one gaff shield. It is very fragile. I did clean the leather up some and put some leather conditioner on it. It remains still very dirty from years of storage, but remarkably flexible for leather that is 68 years old. The gaffs are replaceable if you decide to change them to tree gaffs. This set up originally cost me over $500.00. These are Titanium and are said to be lighter than Aluminum and stronger than steel. I personally can only speak for their weight as I have never broken a climber. The pads are Bashlin simply because I wanted the best I could find. I did not use them much at all. Here is a matching pair of old metal linesman spurs( SPIKES/ GAFFS) that were used to climb utility poles. The metal spurs fit on each leg and the spurs dug into the wooden poles. They were commonly used by telephone or utility lineman. Each item measures approx. 14 1/2" tall. I do not see any makers marks on the items and they look to be hand forged. As you can see there are some old leather pieces still attached. The leather is old and dried out. No reserve. FREE SHIPPING.

Steel Contoured Tree Climber Set with Offset Stirrup, Dowel& Screw Replaceable Gaffs, Nylon Straps& Leather Pads. I used these myself for a while but have since moved and left the arborist business. Vintage WH Buckingham Stephens Climbers 17 1/2 L TREE LINEMANS POLE Spikes Gaffs
Nice set of vintage climbing gaffs. Made by the WH Buckingham Co. Stephens Climbers" 17 1/2L In 1896 Wilmont Stephens founded The Stephens Company in Binghamton. NY. Stephen’s Climber’ was handcrafted in his blacksmith shop and formed the genesis of entire product lines serving linemen and arborists. In 1913. W.H Buckingham purchased the firm and changed the name Stephens Company to what is now known as Buckingham Manufacturing Co. Inc. Notice the old stamping of the WH Buckingham Logo and the use of the"Stephens Climbers" in the stamping. I estimate these to be from 1913 to 1930. Great display item for man cave. I took these out of the box recently and used them in a rodeo for about 20 minutes total. They are in brand new condition. I will not be needing them as I've just retired from the utility. Vintage Buckingham 17 1/2'' Tree / Pole Climbing Lineman Gaffs

Vintage Buckingham Mfg Co. 17 1/2' lineman gaffs as you can see the leather does show wear(left ankle strap is rough) but overall they are in good condition. Up for auction is a set of vintage climbers generally described as follows. Genrally refered to in the industry as pole-tree climbers. Gaffs, spikes or hooks. Both are stamped on the main leg shaft: M. KLEIN& SONS with their logo(worn) Both are also stamped the leg size: 16-1/2. Retain their original intact welded pole-tree spike and strap loops on each end of the foot and leg shaft. Condition of both is good but well used. The foot and leg shafts are intact with NO breaks or cracks. As seen in the photo one unit has a slight"bend" curve to it easily"straightened" There is NO leather available for these pieces. Buckingham 9225 climber set. One sliding section on one gaff might be from an older pair(pictures) it has some paint loss and more dings than the rest of the metal- otherwise the gaffs have a few scratches and a few small rust spots. The leg straps are Klein and appear to have not been used. The foot straps have no name but also look unused. Gaff points can be replaced by driving out a pin. Packages will generally be shipped the next day after payment. Sometimes the same day. E-mail for more pics or any questions. I will combine purchases to save buyer money on shipping.
