The bottom has a piece on metal that move(tightens up)when weight is on the spur.Its hard to put in words.I put them on and when i stepped on the spur it got tighter on my shoe and felt more stable.These are an older set.Had some wear,a little surface rust on the metal that should clean up OK.The leather is not that hard or dry.It looks like it has had saddle soap put on the leather and still has some on it in places.The best that i can make out of the name.Mine Safety Appliances Co. Vintage Buckingham Tree Pole Climbing Spurs Spikes Gaff 16 Inch Cat. #32
13 years ago. My mother-in-law came to live with us. Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back home. We told her we would pack her house up, pack EVERYTHING, and bring here for her to sort through at her pleasure. Her house was much like a museum. She was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's. We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house. Along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show. I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box. She died about 6 years ago. And we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves. It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers. Some are given away, some things donated, ... moresome are kept and some things are offered here. I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad. I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. Up for auction is this nice used set of Bashlin tree/pole climbing gaffs/spikes 140-DS made in Grove city PA. And comes with the Rose manufacturing co. Climbing/ safety belt. The leather and straps on the climbers are in good condition just a little stiff, gaffs are still sharp. The safety belt I don't know how to tell exactly what size it is but I put it on and I have a 36" waist and it had three holes of adjustment on each side of the hole that fit me. Spurs are replaceable so can be switched for tree-climbing style. Used ONCE then stored properly. So in excellent condition with no defects. Leather is supple with lots of life. Bottom of leg irons has some scuffing from being walked on, but paint is still complete. Total weight is about 13# You pay actual shipping from 96097. Your choice of UPS or USPS. I purchased them at a garage sale from a ol' timer during a recent road trip to the Gold Country. Lake Tahoe Basin near Truckee, CA. The guy I bought them from was quite a character. he couldn't actually remember how long or where he got the Spikes but said they'd been around for a loooooooong time sitting outside in the weather. I couldn't leave them behind and just had to rescue them and now I'm looking for someone who would like to have some old Gold Country History hanging on their wall. No telling how many trees were fallen in the Tahoe area by a person wearing these. if they could only talk! I'm not sure of the model number of exactly how to size them. as they sit they measure 17" top to bottom. Without the extenders that slide on the shaft(these don't slide they are rusted) the shaft top to bottom is 14" if that helps to determine the model? The straps appear to be of heavy canvas. Here we have a estate find lot of vintage tree climbing gear still in very good useable condition. i my self do not know much about this stuff i bought it from a local estate sale please see pictures for your self they can tell you a lot more then i can. however i can tell you the spikes say on them 17 1/2 Buckingham mfg co cat no 9627 015 Binghampton new york. theirs one left and one right foot both in very good usable condition no rips on them at all very strong heavy duty leather. also the spkies come with the original leather covers with belt as shown in pictures in good condition no rips very useable i think the metal is brass. then their is a heavy duty leather belt harness also in very good usable condition not sure who made it i do not see any makers name its in good condition no rips on the leather at all all hardware still attached ... morenone mising as shown all working. then theirs some type of harness that says on it buckingham mfg co inc mfg D 9-66 384 it does have a rip on the belt as shown in my picture with my finger pointing. if you have any questions or need any more pictures please ask. thank you

This auction is for everything you need. I only used the belt. Strap, harness, lanyard 2x, so there practically brand new and show hardly any signs of use. The safety harness is a North full body with back D ring only used once. No signs of wear. Spider soft stop lanyard is 6' in length. Buckingham belt only used twice Strap only used twice Gaffs or tree spikes buckingham. Good leather and straps. Overall they are in amazing condition but have some noticeable use.

Up for auction is an antique or vintage 4 pair of used stripped down Lineman's gaffs. They are used the leather leg pads are intact but dry these probably date from the 1950s. The leather loop is broken on the one leg pads as shown in the photo.
