Classic Penn No.85 Sea-Boy Star Drag Saltwater Casting Or Trolling Fishing Reel
This reel is in very good condition mechanically. Very good minus cosmetically. There is some pitting and plating loss on the metal parts, no indication of corrosion. The spool is metal. There is a strong on/off click button on the tail plate. Both end plates are unflawed brown bakelite. The head plate has a free spool throw-off lever on the rim and a star drag on the handle. The bottom of the foot is stamped"30-85" The 1973 catalog promotes this as"Ideal for fresh-water trolling and stillfishing" The reel is rated for 200 yards of 30 lb. Dacron. It is currently loaded with monofilament of unknown test, feels sturdy and useable.

This auction is for one VINTAGE PENN MODEL 85 SEA BOY SALT WATER Fishing Reel made in USA. The reel has been used and has had very good care. The reel looks great; very smooth turning. Gears are tight. There is a small amount of brassing on the posts. Please look at the pictures carefully. Two old Penn No. 85 reels.These reels both work properly.They have chrome loss from hanging around for so long.The Bake lite(brown one) is a little nicer and the black has a few more dings.The black reel had a wobbly handle.So I swapped it out for a double barrel small light green handle,works nicely with this reel. Vintage Stantex Classic Japan PENN 85 Trade Fishing Reel Conventional Saltwater
Vintage Stantex Company Classic Conventional Fishing Reel Made in JAPAN You are bidding on a Vintage Stantex Classic Japan Conventional Fishing Reel. Some wear but in all Very Good Cosmetic and Good Functional Shape. It by all apperances has the same dimensions as the PENN No. 85 with slight variations. Some companys who made trade reels were licenced under PENN. Some made by PENN, this one I'm not sure I never came across this companys blueprint of the 85 until this reel but a unique find indeed. The(chrome parts) posts. Crank, star and seat have some lite finish wear but all still in very good shape. Plates lite surface wear and very good good solid shape. The spool is in very good shape with some lite wear. Has some lite wear but in all a very nice looking reel. The super-sized and zoom-able pictures are of the reel which show it for ... moreyour close inspection. This Stantex Classic works well and ready to fish. Please take note the reel does work well for what it is. But you can clearly tell it is sub-par in quality as compared with a real PENN No. 85. It has a good cranking action with a solid anti-reverse. Good working clutch and free spool mode works. Also a well working clicker switch with a good loud line out alarm. A unique PENN trade reel not sure of its history but certainly a nice piece ready for collection.
