Vintage Utility Telephone Pole Tree Lineman's Climbing Spikes Gaffs
These spikes are very old and well used. I would think the leather might need to be replaced if you really were going to climb anything and feel safe. They look to be adjustable and the spikes are quite sharp. Just can't imagine using these! Guess it could be fun.

This is the personal Belt belonging to the husband and was given to him when he retired from the telephone company. It was stored in the attic of his home. It shows some cracks in the leather. Rust here and there and some oxidizing from condensation. It is marked Bashlin and Grove City, PA. It is 36" when measuring the inside circumference of the Belt around to the 4th notch. The waist is a thick rigid leather. It has two thick metal hooks. A side pouch and a leather strap with a metal hanger. The Belt is structurally sound and is not broken, ripped or torn. Up for auction is a vintage heavy duty linemen's belt for climbing poles. It has a secondary belt riveted to it with places for tools in the back. On the right side it has a leather attachment for tools and on the left side is a canvas bag. It comes with the clip on belt for wrapping around the pole. I got these from the estate of a guy that worked on the Rock Island railroad. I would assume they were for doing repair work on the telegraph lines that ran along the track. Leather is old and dry. Neetsfoot oil or other good shoe oil would make them a lot nicer. Old vintage equipment that I am sure was fine when it was retired. But I would not sell it for use and consider it a collector's item only out of safety concerns. I would have loved to had this setup when I was a kid!
