Cleaned Font of 14 Point Brush (ATF #689) Vintage Letterpress Lead Metal Type
This auction is for a hand cleaned font of 14 Point Brush letterpress lead type(ATF#689) which includes Caps. Lower Case, Numbers and Punctuation, cast by American Type Founders. Type has not been used by me, and had been used somewhat by the previous owner. Just about all of the font cleaned up very well. Some pieces remained dark, although I can assure they are clean. See photos for more visual information. Photo#4 is a reverse(mirror) image for ease in identifying the individual characters. Note that most of the script letters have a standard sans serif letter imbedded on the face corresponding to it in case of confusion in reading the typeface. After cleaning. All typefaces were individually inspected, and appeared to be in very good condition. I have blocked all of the type up in a special container made to hold it. And it is ready to be shipped inside a USPS Small Flat Rate Box. I clean all my type with a commercially available ink solvent/ cleaner. Along with a bristle brush(non-metallic bristles ONLY) I do not attempt to remove the natural dullness from aging(patina) on the typeface itself, as it does not hinder the printing process. Some Numbers and Some Symbols as found in original Thompson Cabinet Co, Printers Tray.The letters are approximately 3/4" high, and 1/2" high. These are extremely heavy made of i believe a lead alloy im guessing at least 50 lbs for this one tray. The letters/numbers/symbols are in very good condition with a lot of duplicates. You wont find a nicer set of types. I will most likely have to ship the types in a few flat rate boxes so i cant guarantee you that the letters wont get mixed up. Antique Letterpress COFFEE/ SIDE TABLE Wooden Printer Blocks Vintage Tray This is a beatiful antique letterpress coffee table. It is full of large. All original antique printer blocks. The letters are all quite large. They are all different fonts and some are really quite ornate. The letters are all original antique pieces from a printer. The tray is very nice as well. It is a very solid tray all made of hard wood. Its not like some newer trays that have a chipboard back. It also has a nice metal handle on it that is original to the tray. The legs are original 1960's pieces. They came off of a retro coffee table and are 100% genuine vintage items. The tray and letters have been cleaned. Burnished and then waxed. After that they were buffed to a nice shine. All told they still all maintain their original look. Even the bottom of the table ... morewas waxed. This is as high of quality as you can get. The legs each screw on so I am able to flat pack the item for cheaper delivery. You do not need any tools at all to assemble it. They just screw into the brackets that are already secured to the tray. Easy. The tray you will receive is the one pictured. 0-9 numbers in antique characters We have found these vintage characters in a french letterpress shop. Which started in 1910. We think. That these letters should be from around 1930/1940. They have a nice patina and also traces of wear. As the letters had a long life of printing a lot of interesting posters, etc. The letters can be used for exemple as decoration. The letters are loose and not joined in any way. The max. height of the letters is 90 mm(3.54 inch) We have listed on ebay some more characters of this letterpress shop.
