1920s Copper Metal Elgin Watch Advertising Letterpress Printing Plate#3 Up for auction is this fantastic antique 1920s printers plate of an antique Elgin Watch. It is copper over what is either aluminum or lead. I'm not sure. It was manufactured by The Art Metal Works, Inc. which was located in Newark, NJ on Mulberry St. They were well known for their metal works. I acquired 11 of these plates which are all listed on separate auctions. When I got them they were in the original box that they had been mailed in. The box was addressed to a W.T. Gress in Ottawa. Ill. The box back is stamped with the Company name and address. It also has(3) 1-1/2 cent Harding US stamps on the box. Harding stamps were issued in 1925. That is how I determined the age of the plates. Vintage letterpress metal(lead) type. I've had this font for years but never had the letterpress to use it with! The height is almost exactly 3/16" Which works out to 14 point, I beleive. The font is not labeled but appears similar to Cooper Black. Weight of the font is about 12 pounds. Each set of letters will be individually bagged and shipped in a Medium Size flat rate box. It seems to be a shipping label printing block for shipping baby chicks since it says"To" and"From" with space for addresses. This printing block is for The National Poultry Improvement Plan showing a neat logo. Between the"To" and"From" it says: BABY CHICKS Produced by flocks supervised by the Division of Meat, Poultry, and Livestock Inspection. Illinois Department of Agriculture Springfield, Illinois.
