VINTAGE WOODEN LETTERPRESS TYPE CASE/ PRINTERS DRAWER Antique wooden type case originally used to store printers letterpress type. Measures approximately 82.5cm x 36cm x 3.5cm deep(32.5" x 14" x 1.5" The tray is divided into three sections. Each having various sized compartments. There are 95 compartments in total with brass detailing at each compartment intersection(see photos) Even the original paper lining in the compartments is still in tact. It also has the original metal handle and label holder. I have polished it up to give the wood a nice all over finish. I t is extremely sturdy and well made with no sign of damages or cracks. This is a used hamilton printers tray/ drawer. Drawer is complete and in good shape. There are 2 stamps on the top of one of the rails. Did my best to picture them. Included are ~250 fraction stamps(1/4 1/3, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 2/3, 3/4, 7/8" in various sizes(3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1" 93 3/8" blocks, 85 1/2" blocks, 24 5/8"blocks, 21 3/4" blocks, 17 1" blocks. Also includes various other blocks parenthesis, periods, boxes, etc(shown in pic 6) Please ask questions. Shipping may appear high but this drawer with all of the blocks is heavy. Large. Distinctive printers type case by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company! Triangular in shape, standing 32 inches tall, 9 3/4 inches wide, and 1 1/2 inches deep. Has a gorgeous deep, inky patina(and some dust! and enough wear to the edges to show that it was definitely used, but no structural damage, cracks, or missing dividers. The best part about this piece is the retention of its original label! There are numbers across the top and down the side of the entire tray, and a metal label on the base with even a serial number: 3728-35, that itself is a lovely piece of vintage typeface! This auction is for a vintage antique Letterpress Printers Tray/ Drawer. It measures approximately 32” x 16” and has 89 various size spaces. There is a Green metal face plate across the front of the drawer with a silver pull marked“ Hamilton” There is some writing on the green piece of metal. Someone has already attached a wire to the back for hanging so it can be used as a shadowbox to display your collectibles. One of the pieces just needs a touch of glue as it is loose. Probably oak with a different wood, solid piece backing. It is about 1 3/8" 16.5" tall and about 21.75" wide. The compartments are: 1"x 2.5" 1 1/8 x 1.25" 2.25" x 2.75" 2.5" x 4.25" and about.75" deep. This is quite heavy as it is very solid. Looks great displayed tall or wide. There is a thicker long side. This was the front of the drawer, which was a drawer pull. It has a dark brown varnish on it and some old labels. There are bits of tape with characters on the little dividers. This was back in the day of Teddy Rosevelt. When only 8% of population had phones, few had electricity, and few had cars. Average wage was 22 cents per hour and 95% of births were at home. The type used in these cases were just about the only way to communicate. Quite a different era. If these cases could only talk. We talk for them as they do make a good conversation piece. These cases are now being used for quite a variety of clever uses. All types of collections. Fly fishing flies, ammunition, thimbles, marbles, etc. One fellow we met placed a piece of glass on them and created beautiful coffee tables. early 1900's antique letterpress printers tray with a first generation Victorian scroll style cast iron Hamilton Mfg. Co. drawer handle. The drawer was painted hunter green many years ago as so many of them were and underneath is oak. The inside rails of the tray is also stamped"New Departure Patented" and"The Hamilton Mfg. Co. Two Rivers. Wis" into the wood. Tray is in great condition and I have only given it a quick wipe down so it still has the factory look to it. 1869 Letterpress"Drawer Pull Handles" 16 Regular Size Handles. Plus 1 Larger Sized Handle(17 total handles) These handles come from a wooden box marked"Letterpress Handles and Parts" I have not cleaned or polished them. However they may have been cleaned or polished prior to being stored, as they appear to be in real nice condition- there is no date when they were put into storage. A handwritten note, on the contents of the box, states that these handles were salvaged from the drawers of a severely damaged cabinet. The larger handle has the exact design and markings as the regular sized handles. The 16 regular sized handles are 3-3/4" wide x 1-1/4" tall x 3/4" depth(out from drawer) screw holes are 3" apart. The 1 larger sized handle is 4-3/8" wide x 1-3/8" tall x 3/4" depth(out from ... moredrawer) screw holes are 3-5/8" apart. On the inside of each handle is engraved" PAT D Nov. 9. 1869" shown in photo#2) Weight: 1 lb. 11 oz. Please Note: 2 of the handles have a visible small nick in the left hand top edge(shown in photo#10. Front two handles) and 1 of the handles has a slight nick in the top edge(shown in photo#10, handle in very back) Upon real close examination using a magnifying glass, 7 of the handles have a small ding or nick somewhere on the face of the handle- this damage could be from normal wear or from when the handles were cast. There are areas with traces of light brown coloring on some of the pieces, which could be light corrosion or the start of light rusting. The larger handle does not have the brightness as the regular sized pieces and is more"dull" in color on the face. These Drawer Pull Handles are USED and VERY OLD. Therefore will have minor defects which may include scratches, blemishes, nicks, discoloration and ink buildup. Lot of 6 vintage antique letterpress tray drawer pulls
Lot of 6 vintage or antique drawer pulls from letterpress trays. All have a great old patina. Which may include some residue. Two of them have the original type font label. I'll leave all cleaning/conditioning to the new owner. Original screws included for 5 of the 6, I'll add a pair of similar old screws for the last one.
