COPPER PRINTER'S ADVERTISING TYPE BLOCK ~ GULF OIL Neat old copper printer's type block advertising Gulf Oil. The copper is mounted on a lead typeset block. This was from an old print shop that went out of business in Bay City. Michigan. The copper has the Gulf Oil logo engraved in it. The block is 1-5/8" square X 7/8" thick. This was used to cut flat pieces of lead(leads and slugs) that are used to space lines of letterpress type. Marked HB Rouse and Company Chicago and American. You made need to fashion some sort of stop block. However the blade still provides a sharp and square cut. Cutter is in very good working order internal spring is functional and all pivot points move freely. This auction is for a hand cleaned font of 14 Point Brush letterpress lead type(ATF#689) which includes Caps. Lower Case, Numbers and Punctuation, cast by American Type Founders. Type has not been used by me, and had been used somewhat by the previous owner. Just about all of the font cleaned up very well. Some pieces remained dark, although I can assure they are clean. VTG MILWAUKEE AUDITORIUM ADMIT ONE TYPESETTERS BLOCK LEAD LETTERPRESS PRINTERS
OK. Is it just me or does anyone else out there in eBay-land think it's a bit presumptuous for the old Milwaukee Auditorium calling themselves The Auditorium? I mean, an auditorium calling itself THE AUDITORIUM as the locals referred to it. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit narcissistic? Anyway. The Auditorium has been around at the current location since 1909 and is still used under a different name today. I have been there many times: conventions hockey game basketball game car show concerts a bunch of other things. It is certainly part of Milwaukee's history and culture! What I'm selling here. Besides my silly opinion, is a printers block in lead for a block that says"admit one, Milwaukee Auditorium" It has some scratches on the backside, I don't think that those matter, but I don't know. The print ... moreunder the Auditorium looks a bit jumbled to me, but again, I don't know. It's the size of one of those tickets that are used for raffles that you rip apart. It measures about 2/1/1" to the closest inch. It's heavy as it is lead, over 9 ounces for this little item. Condition is so often in the eyes of the beholder. I can believe that something is in terrible condition and you can think it's average.
