Well worn vintage condition that gives a great primitive decor look. If looking for a primitive look, this is it! Tons of character in this piece! A fair amount of vintage paint and drawer liner still remain. If using for a shadow box for your collectibles and need it clean, it would need some TLC. A Very Nice Primitive Vintage wood printers drawer made by The Hamilton Mfg. Co. in Two Rivers.Wisconsin. The center support is stamped The Hamilton Mfg. Co. Two Rivers Wis. And New Departure Patented. Size is 22" x 16 3/4" x 1 1/2" deep. There is one partition piece missing on the top row left side. I bought this over 20 Plus years ago. Refinished it and have used it as a shadowbox ever since. I used cable wire to hang it on the wall but later added two metal clips to the top to provide more stability. Very Old Wooden (bottom, sides, dividers all wood) Printers Type Drawer Signed
Printer Type Drawer made entirely of wood. It is very sound for it's age which I believe to be about 150 years old based on the names written on the bottom of the box and the stenciling which is barely legible. The Names Downey& Brouse Indianapolis are written on the bottom which can be seen in photo#2. There is a reference to Captain Charles Brouse supervising the printing of documents for the Grand Old Army of the Republic in 1866. The firm of Downey and Brouse had ceased operations by 1887 according to a reference by Major Oliver M. Wilson. The inside of the drawer appears to have had a liner of paper all across the bottom beneath the drawer dividers which is in rough shape. The drawer does show some evidence of moisture contamination. Nice Wood Letterpress Printers Type Cabinet
Letterpress printer's type cabinet measures appx 25 inches wide by 24 inches deep 44" tall. Flat Top. It has 25 partitioned drawers. Plenty of room for type or organizing scrapbook materials. Screws, collectibles etc. The drawers pull out completely so you can carry them to where you are working. It is a medium oak color.The cabinet is primarily oak. I don't know what type of wood the back and drawer partitions are made of. Hamilton cast drawer pulls in really good condition. You can see from the photos that there is wear. Various nicks and marks on the cabinet but overall it is in good condition and I think it's really quite clean when compared with similar cases. So i t may need some touching up but I really don't feel it needs refinishing. Solid construction. This was purchased from an antique shop in northern California ... morein the early 90's.
