Kameido Bridge Woodblock Print by Tsuchiya Koitsu Japanese Wood Block
Here is a woodblock print titled Kameido Bridge by Tsuchiya Koitsu. This was collected in the early 1950s and has been framed under glass since then. Colors are very strong. Deep and rich. The verso of the print looks a little brown, but I do not see any browning on the print side. Nice example, it measures 11 3/16" x 17" fresh out of an estate.

This print block was used to create advertising materials for Oldsmobile Holiday convertible automobiles and I am pretty sure this is the 1955 model because it exactly matches the picture from a 1955 brochure. Great detail and a nice size. This block was likely used for newspaper advertising. In December of 2000, General Motors announced that this venerable brand would be discontinued. Now that Oldsmobile has been discontinued, automobile fans need to be content with the history of their“Merry Oldsmobiles” This block measures3 3/4 nches wide by1 1/4 inches wide. Antique Vintage "DOVE in the WINDOW" QUILT BLOCK 18"square Gerabaldi print RARE
Antique Vintage DOVE in the WINDOW Quilt Block c.1890-1910. This block is 18 inches square as in pix#1. Or 24 inches on point as in pix#5. This beautiful. Intricate quilt block is all HAND-PIECED. It is one of the most unique of Star blocks. It is nicely stitched using a TAN CHEVRON picotage fabric on the outside of the block, a WHITE cotton for the Star part, and the 4 DOVES are BLACK with a RED FLORAL print called a GERABALDI print. This fabric was pictured in the 1902 Sears Catalog and described in DATING FABRICS by Eileen Jahnke Trestain on page 118 in the 1880-1910 section of her book. I recently acquired a private and personal COLLECTION of COPPER ANTIQUE LETTERPRESS PRINT BLOCKS that I will be listing over the next few weeks. I have done some research on them and found that they are all related to an Ad campaign by INDIAN GASOLINE& OIL. TEXACO or HAVOLINE OIL. These Letterpress Blocks are done by highly skilled artisans/ Engravers and each represents a different scene and story line for the Ad. All were produced by"Syndicate Advertising Co. of New York who were the chief Ad Agency for Indian Gasoline& Oil in those days. Indian Gas& Oil's office at that time was also in Manhattan just a few blocks away. The Blocks were shipped in a small. Addressed envelope and accompanied by a 3 Cent Stamp for Postage. The Individual who all the Blocks were sent to was named HENRY S. BIR of LA GRANGE. INDIANA. I have ... morelearned in my research that Mr. Bir was a prominent business man back in the day. He owned a number of businesses including his"BIR GAS& SERVICE STATION" as well as the"BIR GARAGE HOTEL" In addition. Mr. Bir was head of the INDIANA BUSINESS EXCHANGE(a Civic Club for Businessmen) and was even active in the organization on a National Level. There are about 50 different Blocks in the collection. Each has a different scene and would have delivered a different Ad message. Originally. When mailed, the Block was accompanied by a small Paper/ Ad slick which shows a print copy of the Letterpress in the mailer and an accompanying storyline and Ad featuring the Letterpress. Antique Letterpress Print Block Letter Marble Industry Related, Rutland VT 1920s
This is quite a piece of history. It is a letterpress print block of a letter from Frank P. Bauer Marble Co. Manufacturers of and Dealers in Marble Tile and Slate, Chicago, written to F. R. Patch Manufacturing Co. Rutland, VT on March 24, 1923. F.R. Patch manufactured machinery for the marble industry in VT in the early 1900's. It is fastened to a block of wood measuring 8-1/2" X 7-1/8" with tiny nails. There is a number"520" stamped onto the back top right corner in red ink. It has developed a nice patina and is in vintage condition consistent with its age. It is an estate item. Dating from the 1920's and is being sold as is. As I do not know its previous storage history, I cannot guarantee that it has not been exposed to smoking/fragrance/cooking odors or pets. This very collectable piece of art work is approximately 9.5" x 13" and is in excellent condition. Print aquired from private collector at estate sale in Orlando, Florida. Color is black on black(laquer) with"heavy" embossing. branch/leaf) Persimmon is vibrant in color, clear. Embossing is perfect, strong visible lines, excellent depth/dimension. The print was behind glass and double matted but the original owner removed to identify authenticity, and determine lot/print# and verify artist signature.
