Very nice detail ... moreand a nice size. This block measures about 1 1/6 inches wide by 1 1/16 inches tall. The raised metal surface is mounted type high(918 inches) on a metal block. Print Blocks. Or cuts, were used earlier this century by letterpress printers. The raised metal surface was inked and pressed against the paper in a printing press to produce a right reading impression. The design of the Western saddle derives from the saddles of the Spanish vaqueros- the early horse trainers and cattle handlers of Mexico and the American Southwest. It was developed for the purpose of working cattle across vast areas. And came from a combination of the saddles used in the two main styles of horseback riding then practiced in Spain— la jineta, the Moorish style which allowed great freedom of movement to the horse; and la estradiota, later la brida, the jousting style, which provided great security to the rider and strong control of the horse. A very functional item was also added: the saddle"horn. This style of saddle allowed vaqueros to control cattle by use of a rope around the neck of the animal, tied or dallied(wrapped without a knot) around the horn. Today. Although many Western riders have never roped a cow, the western saddle still features this historical element. Some variations on the Western saddle design, such as those used in bronc riding, endurance riding and those made for the rapidly growing European market, do not have horns. Another predecessor which may have contributed to the design of the Western saddle was the Spanish tree saddle, which was also influential in the design of the McClellan saddle of the American military, being used by all branches of the U.S. Army, but being particularly associated with the cavalry. Really we bought six newspapers in SW Minnesota and combined them in to three! Among the things that went along with the purchase were old presses. Inks, files, broken computers and reams and reams of stinky old paper that had been stored in an old warehouse! Most of the junk we just had to recycle or throw away. What we did save were these WONDERFUL pieces of history- both wood and metal type and other printers items. We will be listing them over the next few months so please take a look. Vintage Japanese Signed Wood Block Print Set of 5, Matted & Framed-14"x16"- NICE
Each is signed by the Japanese artist and is matted and framed with a gold brushed black frame. 14” wide x 16” high. Close-up pictures are included of the artist’s signature and the place of the painting. These prints are in beautiful shape for being 50 years+(I can see a slight tear on the right side of the mat of picture#1) The prints have never been removed from the original framing. It looks like the back has had new tape put on. I did not clean the glass since it will be packed for shipping. Look at pictures to see details and please ask for any other pictures or questions. RARE VINTAGE 1930’s AC WILLIAMS CAST IRON TOY BUS PRINT BLOCK
DESCRIPTION: This is not a toy. But a print block that was used in the printing of toy catalogs and advertising. It is marked“The A.C. Williams Co. Ravenna Ohio” on the back. This block shows the hard to find AC Williams toy bus. It would be neat to display alongside the real toy. MATERIALS: Metal on a wood block DIMENSIONS: Measures about 2 inches long. CONDITION: Overall in GOOD. DISPLAYABLE CONDITION. The factory paper label is intact. This probably came out of the old print shop of the A.C. Williams plant. It is probably harder to find than the toy. And the toy is quite rare! This will fit right into an A.C. Williams, Arcade, Kenton, or Hubley cast iron toy collection. FYI: Our pictures are taken under bright incandescent camera lighting or using a flash that sometimes fades out the colors or makes them appear brighter.
