It measures approx. 9" long x 6 1/2" wide x 6" tall. The box is a painted gold color with silver colored metal strips and handle. I don't know how old this is as it was an estate find. Original Arisaka Type 99 Series 23 Stock with Hand Gu ard Survivor Arisaka 99 7.7 WWII Japanese military rifle Stock with metal butt plate and hand guard. These parts are from a Series 23 made at the Kokura Arsenal. This is kind of an odd piece since it was manufactured by the Kokura arsenal between 1939 and 1945. Kokura didn't make as many guns as the other arsenals. The stock is in very nice shape considering it's age. It has not been refinished or varnished and is totally original. The crack that you see in the picture is where the Japanese joined the two pieces of wood to make the stock. There aren't any cracks in the wood in either the stock or hand guard. The stock measures 40" long and the hand guard measures 16.5" long. This is a true survivor that has not been polished or refinished. I am auctioning other parts ... moreto this same rifle. This auction is for a hand cleaned font of 14 Point Brush letterpress lead type(ATF#689) which includes Caps. Lower Case, Numbers and Punctuation, cast by American Type Founders. Type has not been used by me, and had been used somewhat by the previous owner. Just about all of the font cleaned up very well. Some pieces remained dark, although I can assure they are clean. See photos for more visual information. Photo#4 is a reverse(mirror) image for ease in identifying the individual characters. Note that most of the script letters have a standard sans serif letter imbedded on the face corresponding to it in case of confusion in reading the typeface. Along with a bristle brush(non-metallic bristles ONLY) I do not attempt to remove the natural dullness from aging(patina) on the typeface itself, as it does not hinder the printing process. Yankee Clipper Ship Antique LetterpressPrinters Block– Metal Die Johnson Type Foundry Phila Cleaned with“Nevr-Dull Magic Wadding Polish” Hence the white fibers on the block, upon picture magnification. These printers’ blocks were my grandfather’s and his work was impeccable. I was also a type-set printer, and my final jobs were performed for Kmart Sales Item signs in the store. Those blocks were mostly made of steel. This printers’ block is made of Zinc, Copper and Wood. The wood was most likely Cherry or Beechwood. Lawrence Johnson(23 January1801– 24 April 1860) Was born and educated in England. After an early apprenticeship in the printing industry, he emigrated to the United States of America in his youth. And became an eminent stereo-typer and type-founder in Philadelphia. And one of the most extensive and successful type-founders in ... morethe United States. After Lawrence Johnson's death in 1860. Peter A. Jordon became a partner in the company, and in 1867, the name changed from L. Johnson and Company to MacKellar, Smiths and Jordon. Nonetheless,the operation was long known as the"Johnson Type Foundry" In 1892, the firm was incorporated with the American Type Founders' Company.
