There are lower case, upper case, numbers, punctuation, digraphs, accents, etc. This type set comes from France. We have counted 232 pieces. We hope, that we did not make any mistake on counting, but you will see, what you get on the close-up photos below. Each character measures 54 mm: 2.13 inch and those with descenders 2.56 inch(65 mm) We have removed some dust. But did no full cleaning. THIS HISTORICAL PUNCTUATION is from the 132 year old newspaper/printing plant. The River Press. In Fort Benton, Montana. Lewis& Clark, beginning their famous expedition in St. Louis, Missouri, passed through the area in 1806 while they followed the Missouri River west in hopes of finding a trade route to the Pacific Ocean. To deal with the Indian problems, the first fort was built in the area in 1829, with the fort, Fort Benton. Being built along the Missouri River in 1846. By 1860 the first steamboat arrived up the river from St. Louis laden with supplies as the fort became a major supply source for the settling of Montana and Canada. In 1862 a Gold Rush in western Montana turned Fort Benton into"the world's innermost port" as by 1866 freight was piled"sky high" along the river from 31 steamboats, with 7 steamboats moored at one time along the Fort's levee. In 1875 over 60 steamboats packed in supplies and settlers, with return trips holding a wealth of furs, buffalo robes, 125 tons of placer gold, and thousands of tons of high grade silver bullion. Alphabet in antique letters We have found these wonderful vintage characters in a geman letterpress shop. We think. That these letters should be from around 1940. They have a nice patina and also traces of wear. As the letters had a long life of printing a lot of interesting posters, etc. The letters can be used for exemple as decoration. We hope, that we did not make any mistake on counting, but you will see, what you get on the close-up photos below. Each character measures 90 mm: 3.54 inch. Those with descenders have 103 mm/ 4.06 inch. We have removed some dust. But did no full cleaning. However, as you can see on the photos, the printing blocks are in good condition. The characters were stored up to now in drawers, this is a gorgeous and exceptionnel set of characters. This great piece of American printing history was used to store wood letters to be inked and pressed onto paper. This particular box probable dates from the 30s. It measures 32" x 16.6" These have all kinds of upcycle uses including as a coffee table with a glass top and legs. Lined with velvet for jewelry/earring holder. Mounted display for small collectibles like seashell, rocks, netsukes, cork board filled with wine corks, thread bobbin holder, etc. etc. Nice aged patina. we have around 60 of these with great patina. Vintage / Antique Letterpress Wood Printer's Type "s", lc, 6 line 1" block
The lower case letter"s" 6 line, block is approximately 1" tall and 9/16" wide. Manufacturer: Page& Co. Greeneville CT. The maker's mark on this set of type was used between 1857 and 1859. This type is truly antique. Type is all wood. We have washed with mild soap and water to remove the worst of the dust/soil. Our lighting may distort the color of the wood. There is dried ink etc. on some letters. Some are damaged. Refinishing is up to you If you have questions. Please ask. If you are buying more than one item. Please do not pay for them individually.
