Original 1913 letter from P. Ketchum to E.A. Lupfer in Ornamental Penmanship
Full page letter in ornamental penmanship from P.Ketchum of Madison W.I. to E.A. Lupfer of Columbus OH. February 3, 1913. 16 lines, requesting Mr. Lupfer to write a poem for him. In the letter, Mr. Ketchum says the poem, which he includes, is one he has had written by many of the noted penmen. His own hand is a very fine ornamental Spencerian script. He offers to pay for the work. This item is the original letter. Not a reproduction, as it was removed from an early scrapbook of Earl Lupfer, which Mr. Lupfer kept all his life. This original P.Ketchum letter is shipped mounted archivally without adhesive on an acid-free page. Inserted in a clear sheet-protector. Provenance: Collection of E.A. Lupfer. Zanerican College.

This auction is for one(1) Superb, vintage signature, Joe DiMaggio" signed"original" letter, on V.H. Monette& Company letterhead, dated February 29, 1960. Included, and stapled to the original letter, is a"full hand written" letter, in Joe's handwriting, of the same content as the typed letter, with additional comments about expenses etc. all on a"Hotel Lexington" letterhead, also dated"Jan- Feb 29" Two(2) additional(one typed and one carbon copy) pages show the total expenses requested by Joe. The original letter comes with a Letter of Provenance from"Paula DiMaggio Hamra" and"Kathie DiMaggio Stein" Grandchildren of DiMaggio. The following is a small internet selection giving the background of DiMaggio's association with the V.H. Monette& Company(note the Hotel ... moreLexington mention) Sid Luckman. The old Bears quarterback, had a pal he wanted to put Joe D. with. And that was how Joe found employment with the V. H. Monette Co. of Smithfield, Virginia. Come to think of it. It was the same job- just a different target audience. The Monette Company was the number one supplier of merchandise for U.S. military post exchange stores, all over the world. That was a business with a lot of work for a greeter. Joe and the boss, Val Monette, would turn up in Frankfurt, Germany(or Okinawa, Otranto, San Diego, Lakeland, Florida- wherever the contracts were coming up) to play a round of golf with the general in command of the U.S. base there- and maybe the colonel who ran the PX. Joe might coach some Little Leaguers on the base, or reminisce of an evening in the officers club. And that was all that was required. The generals and colonels were thrilled. They'd be talking about it for months. And Val Monette was thrilled. Business had never been better. Valmore Monette had an instinct for promotion. Frank Leahy Signed Letter - Dec 4, 1941 - Notre Dame (Full Signature)
This auction is for one(1) Full signature, Frank Leahy" signed Notre Dame"original" letter dated December 4. 1941, making it within 72 hours of the attack on Pearl Harbor. This very good condition letter is 8" x 10" with two folds since it was placed/mailed in a mailing envelope at one time. There are some perforations along the left side which were normal at the time. The letter content is interesting being that of"King Features Syndicate. Inc" a William Randolph Hearst connection) Being this particular letter has a"full signature" makes it a much more uncommon example of a signed Leahy letter/document. The date proximity to the attack on Pearl Harbor certainly makes it a more interesting historical example e.g. what may have Mr. Leahy been thinking. Along with the rest of the world, during those ... morefinal hours before the attack that lived in infamy as FDR put it. This is a special Frank Leahy letter to say the least! Original letter of 1826 from Artillery Major William Clibborn sent from Woolwich to Scotland. The first third of the letter concerns his health and his treatment for what sounds like a nasty dose of food poisoning. On Friday last I came off guard on that night between eleven and twelve. I awoke with violent reaching and bowel complaint which lasted until 7 in the morning. ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU LETTER BOX WITH DOOR PULL AND A DOOR KNOCKER
The letter box and the door pull has a Rd No. 505417 which I believe is for 1908 and I believe the door knocker is the same period and came from the same door. The knocker has the letters JGB and No 639 to the back. Both were I believe silver plated at one time but are now showing a lot of brass. I guess the rest of the plate could be removed leaving brass or they could be re-plated or just left. All the wear has been natural wear and there are no signs of of wire wool or other abrasives being used. The letter box may need a new spring and apart from a couple of nuts every thing there including bolts and knocker stud which is secured by one of the bolts. Knocker size just over 21cm long. Letter box and pull just over 20cm wide. Any questions please ask.
