In very Good condition. Light oxidation on the copper. Etched copper plates on attached wood blocks; one block has an image of two candelabras and the other has an image of a large lamp. The back has a paper image of both blocks, some of the paper is missing(please see photos) Block has a mount on the back. Beautiful piece with character and quality. Supposedly showing a native American in full head dress, CHIEF ERIEZ. The best that I can determine was that Chief Eriez was a cartoon advertising"spokesman" or trademark for the city of Erie Pennsylvania, or ... morefor its Chamber of Commerce(or equivalent) or for the local radio stations in Erie. I found this info in a magazine that had a story about radio station history of Erie- the only notice I could find regarding a"Chief Eriez" Measures just over 3/4 inch wide by right at 1 inch deep. The scan showing the words"Chief Eriez" printed BACKWARDS is what the cut will look like when you take it out of the package; the scan showing the those words reading regularly from left to right is"flipped" and shows basically what the cut will look like when printed. BOTH SCANS ARE LARGER THAN ACTUAL SIZE! See actual size in above paragraph. This would probably be a neat- if a bit dated- cut from the amateur letterpress printer or the boutique letterpress/ hand type print shop in Erie Pennsylvania to have on hand! Loras College Dubuque Iowa copper plate wooden printing block Very Nice cond.
Up for auction is a 5.25" x 7.25" wooden printing block with a copper plate for Loras College in Dubuque. Iowa. The plate shows the Mississippi bridge from Illinois to Iowa and below that is a phrase" A Greater LORAS in a greater Dubuque" Below that is a building, presumably one of the college's, with the words Loras College\ Dubuque Iowa underneath it. I'm assuming that it's copper plate; quite a bit of verdi gris on it. Still, a unique piece for any Loras alumni or Dubuque memorabilia collector. Very NIce and heavy. Vintage/Anq. Copper Printing Block Advertising Stamp, 1940s. Allen Bradley (g)
This is a copper printing plate that came from an employee of Allen-Bradley in Milwaukee. WI from when he worked there in the 1940s. The second picture shows the piece through a mirror so that it is not backwards. It may not be as clear because of that. It says Allen-Bradley on top and below it says'High Voltage Motor Starters with air break contacts' It continues with a description. The bottom shows the Allen-Bradley logo and then it says'Motor Control Headquarters' with 6046A-M below that. It is about 4 3/8" tall x 3 3/4" wide. It is a copper plate with metal backing.

1930’S-50’S “GEE-WHIZ” COPPER AND WOOD PRINTING BLOCK/VERY GOOD
This copper and wood stamp printing block is in excellent condition. The copper is attached well to the wood block with rivets. It is a relatively clean piece but has definitely been used. Dimensions of the stamp are 2” long x5/8” wide x 5/9” deep. The term Gee-Whiz was first used in the 1876 in print form in the book Life on the Border by Cody and Arlington. The phrase started as a euphemistic expression replacing Jesus and was considered less objectionable than simply swearing. The phrase is an Americanism and has been used in many ways throughout American history. It was the brand name of a Harmonica. Whistles, and used in advertising Ford cars in the 1940’s. Probably the most popular use of the term started in the 1950’s with the onset of the Gee Whiz comics. At that time it was used as an exclamation of surprise or wonder. Because the ... moreway the letters are put on the copper in this stamp it appears this Gee Whiz is probably from the 1930’s or later and used as it would be in a comic strip. In todays world. The Americanism has now been shortened to Gee.

The car shown is the 30 horsepower four cylinder model that was introduced that year for $1250. Online research produced a photo of the car and a rather poor reproduction of a print ad which looks like a duplicate of this block but naturally is a mirror image. Obviously because they neglected the two coats of Powdrpaint! POWDRPAINT a remarkable discovery reduces the cost of painting 75% claimed the mfgr. A. L. Rice in 1916. Antique Copper printing block, Phila. Strawbridge and Clothier advertisment
Cool old advertising print block. It is made of copper on a wooden backing. I got this block out of my Grandfather's carpenter shop in 1969 after my Grandmother passed away. His shop was in it's prior life the local newspaper office in McVeytown Pa. Advertizers used to send the blocks out to papers who would run the ads. It is advertising the new concept of mail Order! From venerable. Now defunct Philadelphia Pa. department store Strawbridge and Clothier. I inked the block with a roller and pressed the paper on with my hand. The images are sharp on the block but my crude methods left a bit to be desired in printing. Very rare item and priced to sell.

Hugh had been employed with the Chicago Board of Education as a Stationary Engineer since 1903. In 1912 he transferred to the Moos School at 1711 N. California Ave. Where on the 7th of March, 1923 a horrific accident occured. Hugh Manley. For 22 years a member of Local No. 143 of Chicago, Ill. and for 15 consecutive years elected without opposition to it's Board of Trustees, passed to his eternal rest October 26, 1925. The old adage that'For every man God has his plan' was surely a truism in the life and death of this departed brother. Brother Manley entered the service of the Chicago Board of Education as an engineer custodian in 1903. Being ... moresuccessful in the promotional examinations he rapidly passed to the top group or division in the service. He entered into the active work of the Local No. 143 soon after joining it's ranks. Though a man who seldom took the floor in debate. His wisdom was attested by his long service as a trustee and member of the Executive Board. His death is attributable to an accident that occured in the Moos School on March 7. 1923, where he was engineer custodian until his death. Never has a more heroic deed been performed than that of Mr. Hugh Manley. On that eventful morning Hugh Manley allowed the water in his two boilers to rise to a high level as he wished to'blow them down' He opened the blow-off cock in the rear of the boiler and stepped to the front to watch the water as it came down. When the water had reached the level he desired he turned to go back to the rear of the boiler and was met by a geyser of boiling hot water coming from the blow off basin which had become clogged. Knowing he had no time to spare. As the two 100-horse-power boilers were carrying 80 lbs of steam and the roaring fires in the furnaces beneath them generating more steam every minute, also real
