This North American wood has grain lines that just won't quit! They are very close together and accentuate the shapes I have carved into the wand's design. There is a lot going on in this wand. Coves. Beads, v-grooves. it's all here and every transition makes those grain lines even more dramatic. It was a joy seeing the final results just"pop" as I started the finishing with a custom tint pore filler to make the wand's surface smooth. This classic style looking wand has an exciting look and the large diameter handle has some bold details too. This wonderful old growth wood is a little darker than most of the oak I find. 1871 Fair Entry Cards - various Advertisers Red Oak, Iowa
Great old cards from Iowa. Three cards are from the S.W. Iowa Fair 1871(white cards) Henry. Lee and Co on the fronts and Justus Clkark& Co's on the backs from Red oak and Red Oak Junction. Measure 4 1/4" x 2 3/4" These cards have punch holes, one still has the string and another has torn out through the hole punch. Light staining on one and another looks like it has a heat mark along an edge. Edges are slightly dull. The three yellow cards have fair class entry lines but no date and no fair name. The front of the card is for Godfrey& Kirkwood Red oak, Iowa the back lists W.S Fisher& Co, R.H Haller, Red Oak Nursery and W.S. Fisher& Co. Antique Early 1900s Small Wood Steamer Trunk Red, Black w/ Gold Oak - NICE!
This is a beautiful wood steamer trunk from the early 1900s. This trunk is black metal with very pretty red and silver accents. It has unusual wheels on the bottom. I have not seen these on a steamer trunk. It measures 17-1/2" tall, 26" wide and it is 14" deep. It is in excellent clean condition. On inspection the handle straps are missing on the sides and the locking center latch is also missing. It shows normal scuffing and bumps as you would expect but no abuse. The trunk had mothballs stored in it and there is a lingering scent. I have never dealt with moth balls and I did not try to deodorize it but I think it will dissipate over time. The trunk is solid and sturdy. It comes from a non smoking and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use. Shipping includes insurance and delivery confirmation. Vintage 1924 Singer Sewing Machine Red Eye Model 66 Tiger Oak 7 Drawer Cabinet
Going by the Singer serial number website. This is a 1924 Model 66"Redeye" treadle machine. The machine has an electrification kit from H. Adler& Co. added. So it does have a two receptacle plug on the case back for a light(which in working order) and the motor. The pulley and motor could all use some lubrication and adjustment as it does squeak and slip when run. It is also missing a bobbin plate by the needle and maybe some other minor items that I am not familiar with. So that leads to the cabinet that is a bit of a confusing picture. The cast iron base does not show that it was ever a treadle. I believe the machine was added to this cabinet and that machine and cabinet are not original to each other. Now that I have stated all the things are a bit of a distraction from the overall piece. Let me talk about what it does have ... moregoing. The decaling on the machine is still very strong and the serial number plate of G0792897 is attached. It runs and can be converted back to a treadle or have some minor work to get it functioning better as an electric machine. The cabinet is about as I good as I have seen them. Very strong grain that is in plus condition from an abuse standpoint. This is when they made veneer about 3 times thicker then it is today. Truly a gorgeous cabinet. The 3 drawers on each side are still all in above average condition as well as the thin front drawer. I have shown views from all around. The base has the classic Singer insignia of the time and the surround around it reads"Singer Mfg. Co. I would keep it but I just don't have the room. Handmade End-grain Red Oak 8 x 8 x 3 in. Trinket Jewelry Box w/Hinged Lid
A strikingly beautiful red oak trinket box. 8 x 8 x 3 inches. The top is in a parquet-like pattern made from 1 3/4 x 1/34 inch slices cut from end-grain oak. The sides are also end-grain slices, but from larger stock- 2 x 3 and 2 x 4 inches. The top and sides are about 1/2 inch thick. The finish is glossy and thick- I'm guessing it's polyurethane varnish. The color is not quite as deep/reddish as in the photos. The bottom is signed"P. Harold 8-7-01" P. Harold was a competent woodworker. But almost certainly an amateur. Substantial cracks have opened as the result of shrinkage over time- see photos. It will be packed well and sent quickly after payment. Shipping to CONUS only.

THE CRAFTSMANSHIP IS EXCEPTIONAL. THE CORNERS ARE RABBITED AND THE CEDAR LINING IS 5/16 THICK. THE WALLS OF THE HUMIDOR ARE A FULL 3/4 INCHES THICK. THE OUTSIDE MEASUREMENTS ARE. 9.75 LONG, 6.75 WIDE AND 7 INCHES TALL. THE INSIDE MEASUREMENTS ARE 8.25 LONG, 5 1/8 WIDE AND 4.75 DEEP. THE LID IS 1 1/2 DEEP. THE HINGES ARE SOLID BRASS. 1873 RED OAK. TX LETTER- PRAIRIE LAND, WAXAHACHIE FIRE Newsy old 1-page letter(7.5 x 9.75” dated 1873 and written in quite legible black ink from RED OAK. TEXAS by George C. Parks to his friend John P. Maddy in Indian Creek, Monroe County, WV. Maddy has evidently inquired recently about land in the Red Oak area, and Parks describes the cost, crop potential, fencing, nearby roads, lack of timber& water, etc. of the land. He also mentions severe financial losses he and his son(E. H. Parks) suffered in a recent fire in the business section of Waxahachie, TX. A full transcription of the letter follows: Red Oak Texas March 24(th 1873 Mr. J. P. Maddy Indian Creek WVA Dear Sir and Friend Yours of the 9th( sent to hand. Contents noted. The tract of land you speak of is EXCELLENT Prairie Land. No timber and no lasting water. Road on the west and ... morealong line. Land in that neighborhood rates some $7 to $9 per acre. The planks and posts are worth about $1( per Rod( coin. Wheat is pretty sure crop. Looks very well at this time. General average from 15 to 20 bushels per acre. Wheat, oats, corn, rye and cotton are all tolerable sure crops. Our country is selling very fast. Land going up. Emigrants flocking in. Land breaking and fencing, house building&c. All well. Ellen Ross& family well. I and my son E. H. Parks lost some $6,500 in THE BURN AT WAXAHACHIE. Suppose you have heard the business part of the town was burned in February. Write. Yours Truly, G. C. The letter dates from an interesting period in the history of Texas and the American West. It has about a ½ inch tear at the left edge and a few other small holes along the center fold line.
