The unit powered up immediately, with the digital display lighting and responding as it should. I held the up arrow until the display read around eight-hundred degrees, and the furnace heated up quickly, with the digital display displaying the rising temperature. After about thirty second, smoke started coming out of the top of the furnace, so I quickly shut the unit off. After unplugging the unit, I opened it and it was quite hot inside.
