STERLING SILVER TEASPOONS and SUGAR TONGS - BOXED
BOXED SET OF SIX STERLING SILVER TEASPOONS and SUGAR TONGS Offered for auction at just 99p are these six s terling silver teaspoons and sugar tongs which have a total weight o f 127 g on my digital ki tchen scales. All seven pieces carry the familiar Lion and the other markings indicate an 1897 Sheffield hallmark and the JD over JW letters in a shield tell us the silversmiths were John Deakin& Sons- John& William Deakin. They seven pieces are all in very good condition. The spoon s are approximately 12cm long and the tongs about 10.5cm. The brown presentation box in which they come is in very good condition on the inside with no tears to the light green silk or blue velvet fabric. The exterior of the bo x is in sound condition overall and the slight discolouration and marks perhaps add to its authenti city. UK postage will be £5.00.

They are marked BB(Barzillai Benjamin) A Connecticut silversmith in the late 18th century, also marked F&Y(unknown) They have an elaborate monogram at the bend with the initials R G H. Size: weight 46 grams, length 6 3/8" long x 15/16" widest. The silver test at coin(800) or higher. Condition is excellent and unpolished with no damage. Victorian pickle castor. Metal unmarked, IVT(inverted thumbprint) cranberry glass, hand painted insert, floral spray in raised thicker enamel, tongs x 2, c1890. The castor is about 9.75" tall and 6" wide. The castor is probably original and from a quality company. The number"24" is scratched into the base(photo 7 at about 5:00) The glass insert has a ground and gilded top. There is a small fleabite on the inner rim of the insert(photo 5) which is minor. I did polish lightly, and checked the plating. The plating is all intact with no worn spots. It could be thoroughly polished when received, however, old silver plate looks better to me with some oxide to reflect its antiqueness. My opinion. Antique Silver Olive Sugar Ice Tongs Hallmarked Sweden Stockholm Enamel AR 700
Antique silver olive. Ice, or sugar tongs. These tongs are 4 3/4 inches(12 cm) long. When the top button is pushed, the three curved claws open; a spring mechanism closes the claws when the top button is released. The underside of the top button has"MADE IN SWEDEN" and and 3 impressed hallmarks- looks like a shield with a 4-leaf clover inside, an A with heart underneath, and a number 2. The top of the round flat disc around the handle has this same 4-leaf clover impressed mark, with four crowns in each of the leaves. Not marked Sterling, unless those hallmarks mean it, I can see corrosion on the tongs here and there, so I'm guessing just silver plate or silver toned. They are a bit unusual in that the top has a beautiful blue enameled paint, sadly.it's chipping off and a picture of a building with seagull birds in the sky. ... moreHas the words Stockholm AR 700 on it. The tongs were made in the last quarter of the 1700s. They are of very good weight. The length and heads of the tongs are decorated with bright cut engraving in geometric and leaf patterns. The initials L over I. A are monogrammed on the inside of the connected end of the tongs. Really a very unusual place to find monogram. The tongs are hallmarked on the inside with the lion passant for sterling silver. The duty mark of King George III and the makers mark of GS over WF for George Smith III and William Fearn of London. The condition is excellent. There are no dents. No splits, no monogram removals and no breaks. The tongs are approximately 5 3/4 ... moreinches long. When relaxed. They are in the Bead edge pattern by the well known prolific cuttlery/ flatware London silversmith George Smith. Who was active during the 1st quarter of the 18th cent. This auction is for a Lovely Pair of Antique R. Wallace& Sons Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs in the Carthage pattern. Patented in 1917. Originally, I did not know the pattern, but another ebayer, knowledgeable in this area, kindly took the time to help with the identification. The tongs are in excellent condition. The tongs are 3 1/4" long. You can see the size in relation to a US dime. They weigh 12.65 grams. I am not very knowledgeable about silver marks. A mark I found for R. Wallace& Sons, Wallingford, Connecticut via internet search. In addition to the makers hallmark.
