Blue M Rad-O-Glow Furnace For sale is this used Blue M Rad-O-Glow Furnace. It is overall in pretty decent cosmetic condition with the normal few exterior scuffs and scratches. Some of the ceramics on the inside the oven are a little deteriorated though I didn't see any issues that would cause major usability problems. See photos below for more details on physical condition. We wired the oven up and were able to test it out. The oven heated up properly and got quite hot. Though are not sure exactly how hot. The only issue we saw was that the temperature display fluctuated in what it showed. We believe the thermocouple may be bad but it could also be the display. Well. Being that this is made by the"Williams Gold Refining Company" I expected that they would build gold refining ovens. And since this conveniently fits four standard assay crucibles at one time perfectly. Heh, you would think it would do the job, NOPE! Seems to be a low temperature curing oven. The temperature gets up to around 500 degrees, and it makes me wonder if the company didn't start out building gold refining ovens but simply slap in cooler elements for different purposes. Who knows. The company is long defunct and this is a vintage furnace. I know this should appeal to a lot of people who are not able to set up a huge kiln for doing pottery. I should think that it is sufficient for pottery since I was able to bake borax into a quite hard mass with it. I can only imagine that it would make clay set pretty good too. ... moreI really don't know, but it is just my guess. Otherwise, I don't know what such a low temp oven is good for but I am sure someone out there can either modify it for more heat or else adapt it to some use they might have. I should have asked ahead of time how hot it got, but well, when you see a good deal and are in a hurry you get what you pay for, and I am being brutally honest with the details here. I need to sell it, even if at a loss. I am starting at $99.95 with $34.95 shipping(It will not fit in a flat rate box so yeah, that bites. It has a middle shelf. Runs on extremely small amount of power, sure, it takes an hour or two to heat up, but your energy useage is almost nothing, and you could probably use it if you live in a small apartment, just set it on your porch or patio or balcony or whatever you have for a yard. People barbeque all the time, why not do your pottery, or maybe you work with some resins in which case this might be just what you needed! I won't tell you what I paid for it. This is a used older vintage kiln or furnace- not sure of proper name- It was owned by my grandfather whom passed. I do not know the year it was manufactured. My grand mother told me he only used it a couple times tand sat for years and years- and since has sat in corner of basement. has light surface rust. This is a Benchtop furnace with Swest digital controller. I purchased it from a jeweler in Nashville TN. I have used it for over a year with fantastic results. The controller is actually a separate programmable unit used to melt wax out of intricate dental or jewelry molds. It works fine. But I do not have a manual for it. I used it as a melting furnace for gold and silver. I took a picture of my last melt on Silver. It was at 2020° F at the moment. It does take a minute to reach this temperature but I have no problem maintaining it for multiple pours. The Swest controller offers programmable times and temperatures. Again I didn't use the programmable feature but I did take advantage of the thermocoupler and it's extremely accurate temperature reading. I would really like a quick sale and a best offer feature is available. Shipping ... moreis listed as $95.00 but that is an approximate average. UPS ground is usually best and it is charged based on zone and destination. Reality is from Alabama to Washington state it was 125.00. Temperature up to 1700°C 3600 Watts 45 Amps Date of Manufacture: March 1992 This furnace is in good overall physical condition. With normal signs of use. The cast ceramic fiber insulation is in good condition as well. I don't know a lot about this unit. But I will describe what I see: This is not a"split-tube" furnace, it is one solid piece. There is an opening at the bottom. As you can see in the last few pictures. The white pipe looking pieces(shown on the floor in front of the furnace) used to be inside the furnace, but they cracked. So we removed them. They appear to be made of some sort of ceramic material. I don't know if they are necessary ... morepieces or not. I am not sure if there is supposed to be some sort of external control. But I don't see anyway to control the temp on the unit. You will receive ONLY what is shown in the pictures. Powers up and Heats Up. The thermometer seems to lag behind the heating quite a bit. So I don't know if that part is working properly. Because of electrical limitations, I didn't dare turn the heat all the way up on high, but it certainly heated up nicely. At less than 90% on each setting of Low, Medium and High the heat light would cycle on and off regularly. The Main light stayed on all the while. The longer I kept the furnace on, the higher the temperature readout went, so the thermometer is working at least that much. I could also hear the furnace make noise like a motorized timer and I could hear as the heating elements turned on and off. At more than 90% the heat light stayed on constantly. This oven has dings and dents and bumps to the stainless steel case. There is also a crack to the ceramic liner as shown. Ceramic has also broken off in little bits from the"ribs" that separate the heating elements inside(here and there- not enough to be a concern I think) There is tape and sticker residue on the case from where the door was taped closed during handling by the state. It has a platinum thermocouple connected to a built-in internal digital temperature readout. Input power can be adjusted by turning a small screw on the controller panel. It works, but some controller functions no longer work and the thermocouple wires have corroded somewhat at the terminal block. Power will automatically throttle down as the preset temperature is approached. I used it for over 15 years for making high temperature alumina porcelain marbles. The furnace walls show several cracks and vapor deposition stains, but this will not effect its operation. The furnace walls are composed of super efficient rigid ceramic insulation.
