In another 10 years, these printers’ blocks will be antiques. These printers' blocks were my grandfather’s and his work was impeccable. I was also a type-set printer, and my final jobs were for Kmart Sales Item signs in the store. Those blocks were mostly made of steel. The Flag printers’ blocks are made of Zinc, Copper and Wood. The wood was most likely Cherry or Beechwood. Two-color processing was created with these blocks. You can still see some red ink on the Zinc and Wood block with the waving stripes flag form. This beautiful eclectic mix of old original antique printers wood type has a total of 41 separate pieces. The size of the pieces range from 1" 3 1/4" inches tall. Note: 3 of the 41 pieces are old copper mounted on wood. The other 41 pieces are all old wood type. I have a special way of packing so that it keeps the same arrangement as seen in the picture. None of the pieces are attached together. The tray is not included. Since each piece is separate you can arrange or use the letters in many different ways. Vintage Letterpress Printers Block - Cut - Goddess with Spear - copper on wood
This is a really neat cut. It appears to be a goddess or maiden of some type with a spear. It's a wood block with a copper image. It measures 2.5" X 1 and 1/8" The printed image wasn't done on a press so it is not as clear as it would be if done that way. We are old time printers just jumping into the 21st century! Really we bought six newspapers in SW Minnesota and combined them in to three! Among the things that went along with the purchase were old presses. Inks, files, broken computers and reams and reams of stinky old paper that had been stored in an old warehouse! Most of the junk we just had to recycle or throw away. What we did save were these WONDERFUL pieces of history- both wood and metal type and other printers items. We will be listing them over the next few months so please take a look.
