This font has 6 each of Cap A's, N's, O's, R's, S's, and T's; there are 8 Cap E's. There are 19 Lower Case a's and 27 Lower Case e's to give you an example of how huge this font is. The only exception is that there are two Upper Case B's. Everything else is jam packed. I don't know if this is Kinglsey or Howard-there is only one nick on the body of the type. Letterpress Type 30 pt Consort Condensed Complete Font Caslon Foundry NOS Here is a complete font of 30 Point Consort Condensed Letterpress type. This was manufactured by the Stephenson and Blake type foundry which was the premier British manufacturer of letterpress type. This is new old stock and has never been used. The bottom image shows the type. Included in this font are three separately wrapped packages. One contains the lower case letters s, one contains the upper case letters and figures(numerals) and the third has the points(punctuation marks) In fact, the packages were never opened except I opened the uppercase letters for this photograph and then carefully rewrapped and taped the package shut. The typefoundry began operations in July 1818 by silversmith and mechanic William Garnett and toolmaker John Stephenson. Financially supported ... moreby James Blake. That November, news came that the breakaway Caslon foundry(formed when William Caslon III left the original Caslon foundry in 1792) was put up for sale by William Caslon IV. In 1819 the deal was concluded and Blake, Garnett& Co. were suddenly in charge of one of England’s most prestigious typefoundries. In 1829 Garnett left to become a farmer. The company was renamed Blake& Stephenson in 1830, but Blake died soon after. It became Stephenson, Blake& Co. in 1841. John Stephenson died in 1864, the year after he handed control to his son Henry. By the early 1900s the foundry had ventured into steel making and tool production, which would prove to be the core business of the current firm. The origin of this font design is Germanic. The fourth and fifth photos are reversed(right reading) for ease in checking the font and being able to determine condition and the individual letters in the font. Some letters may be out of order. The sixth photo is an image of a specimen sheet taken from the 1912 ATF Type Catalogue. Please Note: Some of the letters are a different variation of the font being offered. This auction is for the Font Cloister Bold 30 Point. Anything else that shows in the photos. Such as tweezers, a galley tray or a cabinet drawer are not part of the auction. This was pulled from one of my husband’s Hamilton cabinets. To the best of my knowledge it is a complete font(caps. Lower case, figures and ligatures) although a few have probably gone astray over the years. You will get a fair number of spacers too, although that varies depending on how the type fit the box, and filling in rows. The type has been arranged and boxed as shown in the photos. Layers of type are separated by a piece of foamcore. Boxes are securely taped for transport. The Cloister family of faces was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. Who headed the design department at ATF and was their chief type designer from 1900 to 1937. All of the Cloister typefaces ... morewere produced by American Type Founders, the dominant American manufacturer of metal type for most of the twentieth century. Although this is a bold face it is quite suitable for a number of printing tasks and the smaller point sizes read well for books and other text intensive tasks.
