This is by far the nicest Back Stand Idler I've seen, and it's HUGE! The weight of this Unit is: 63 lb's It has an exceptional range of adjustment for: Tracking, Tensioning and Side to side, and Front to Rear positioning of the Idler wheel. All the controls work easily. And as they should! There are NO: Breaks, or Repairs. I did put a new handle on the Idler control) I see part numbers. On some castings. But no manufacturer's name. It is very Solidly Constructed, of Thick Steel plate, and Heavy Aluminum Castings. There had been some rust on it. But it cleaned up very well. I repainted the Steel parts. All the screw threads are in good condition. And work easily. The Face of the Idler Wheel measures: 9- 1/4" wide and is: 6- 1/8" in diameter. The overall length of the idler wheel, and arbor. Is: 18- 3/8" The bearings ... morefeel tight, and sound quiet. It spins very smoothly. The idler wheel is Aluminum. There are some minor surface scratches. But nothing that would affect it's function. The Base of the Angle plate measures: 14" by 6- 1/4" Where the upper mechanism is bolted to the angle plate, the mechanism can be moved front to back. Or left to right. For several inches; courtesy of slots in the two adjacent plates. The angle plate. Itself, allows the idler wheel to travel in a shallow arc. This changes the height only a little. such that the idler wheel's center is: 9" high at start of arc, 10" high at mid-point, and 9" high at end of arc) Mainly. Though, in the course of the this travel. The center of the idler wheel moves 8- 1/4" front to rear. And even at the extreme's of it's adjustment. With the angle plate all the way up. And the idler wheel slid out to the end of it's side to side throw. The Unit still stays balanced on it's base plate. Additionally. The Idler wheel can be swung approx. 40 degrees to front. This is a Table for the Classic DELTA Rockwell 6 X 48 Belt Sander Grinder. This table is in nice working condition, and would be a great'User' Or replacement! The three round holes drilled in it are tapped. I could see those. And the slot cut in it. As being very useful for jigs. Or guides. There's a'wear edge' Added to the back side, which is now itself somewhat worn. But it's easily replaceable. On the bottom. You can see where several steel blocks have been brazed. These are strongly. But not very neatly. Attached. At first glance. This looks like the repair; of a break. It's not. Though. The replaceable wear edge is fastened to those blocks; and that's why they were added. Actually. Not such a bad way to deal with the fact that this area of these tables always wears out. You can see. Here's the Idler Drum Cover for a 6" x 48" Delta Milwaukee Belt Sander Grinder Finisher(will also fit the Rockwell models of this machine) As you can see in the photos, this part needs some TLC! but. In light of what these pieces sometimes go for. I thought it might be a worthwhile project. There's one smaller repair to one end. The very common groove left behind by poor belt tracking. This repair has been partially filled, with a common product called"Plastic-Weld" I've had very good luck with this filler. It's durable. Sticks well, and takes paint well. The repair could be completed with other products as well. Though, as I've found the"Plastic Weld" to be very stable. And inert, once hardened. These partial repairs were made several years ago) The second partial repair. Involves the Guide ... morepin. Inside the cover. There was some cracking around it's base. This repair looks to be very sound. And is nearly completed. Of course. The major concern here, is the large break. This is a clean break; meaning. That only one piece is broken off. And when held together. The pieces mate nicely. This would need to be strongly glued at the edges. Perhaps this repair could also be reinforced. From inside, an adhesive backed sheet. Or tape. Ultimately. I think this item could be restored to usefulness with limited effort. And at a significant cost savings, over a better condition used. Here's a great Belt Sander/ Grinder Combo package! Included here are: A nice vintage Back Stand Idler with a 4" wide drum. Two Chicago Rubber Serrated Contact Wheels(one has a width of: 4" And the other a width of 1" a 1" arbor adapter for this style of wheels, and also a 5/8" to 1" arbor adapter. The Back Stand Idler is used. But works great. When I got it. There was some sawdust collected on the exterior. Thus. On some parts, one can see a small amount of pitting. This damage is only cosmetic. I entirely disassembled this Idler. Then thoroughly removed rust. And cleaned every part. I then primed and painted them. The bare metal surfaces are coated with BoeShield(T-9) metal protector. Rust did not affect the Internal/ Moving parts. The Bearings feel good, and the Drum spins smoothly. The'Tracking mechanism' ... moreworks easily. And well; and all it's parts are in good condition. There are no Breaks, Repairs. Or modifications anywhere on this idler. I see no signs of previous use anywhere on the CHICAGO RUBBER Contact Wheels. I believe them to be new! There was some minor surface rust on the hubs; from storage. I cleaned that off. And touched up the paint. One of the wheels still has it's tag. This says that these are: Cosmo' style wheels. There is also a hardness of: 70 Duro. Listed. Both wheels feel the same to me, and I'd say they are both: 70 Duro. There is a Chicago Rubber Adapter. For this style hub included here. This adapts these wheels to be used on a 1" arbor. That adapter is used. But is in very good working condition. Also included here is a: 5/8" to 1" adapter. This is a very good quality item. Neither of these adapters locks in place with a set screw. The wheels would thus need to be'trapped' between collars. Or nuts, for mounting. This Set(Idler and wheels) is identical to those used by DELTA/ Rockwell. For many years. The 1/8" collet inside this thin one has one of the tabs missing so the collet needs to be replaced for it to tighten properly. Delta Rockwell 31-350 1 x 42 Belt Sander Grinder W/ Original Stand
Delta Rockwell 31-350 1" x 42" Strip Sander/ Grinder Made In USA This machine is in good used condition and includes the somewhat rare Cat.No. 50-106 open legged steel stand. The sander does not have a serial number badge but I'm guessing it dates from around the late 1960's to early 1970's. All four wheels are brand new aftermarket replacements which ran me about $80. The cast iron table is patinated but not pitted and shows little sign of belt damage. Platen is in great shape. It is powered by a Delta Rockwell 3/4 HP. 3450 RPM motor and is controlled by a pull rod switch. V-belt should probably be replaced. Runs and tracks great. Ready for work. This machine is located approximately 30 minutes north of Milwaukee. WI and is local pickup only. I can hold for a short period of time with full payment.
