This auction is for an antique brass and metal Excelsior Improved Spring Balance Scale with markings up to 48 lbs. The front plate is brass and measures 8 1/4" long x 2" wide. With the hanging ring included at the top and the hook at the bottom it measures about 13 3/4" long. It has use marks such as scratches. Dings, wear and other marks and at the bottom of the scale it tends to bend downward and their is a small dent on the side there as well. Both the ring and the hook are rusted. The back of the scale has alot of wear to the black finish. Scrapes of missing paint, pitting, scratches, rust, dings, etc. Also the inside piece at the top(what is it called? a bolt? is very rusted and I don't think it will turn. not that it has too) but the rust on it has kept it from moving. Each 20 lb. is marked on the slide with attached hook and the intermediate weights are shown on the circle. Stamp shows that it was produced in New York/ USA. The hand of the circular dial shows some brazing marks and doesn't return to zero all the time- but spring on slider works w/out problem. Antique Vintage General Store Spring Balance Meat Scale Up for auction is an antique Morton’s Improved spring balance meat scale such as would have been used in a General Store. On the face of the scale it says. Warranted New York 1871. The scale hand does move freely when weight is applied but it does return to zero. As is shown in the photos. The front appears to be white porcelain with three of the corners chipped off and at some point has been re-touched with paint. The back of the scale has been repainted at some point in time also. The scale. Not counting the hooks, is 10 ¾ inches long and the dial measures 5 ¼ inches across. This would make an excellent decorative item to hang a plant from or an antique basket in your kitchen. Vintage Welch zero to eight ounce scale -strong spring - works great
This is a scale that measures up to 8 ounces or 250 G. It was made by Welch in Chicago. Il. There is a little surface rust on the back but none on the front which appears to be stainless steel. The flash on my camera gave this scale a yellowish cast. It is silver in color.

11x4.25" This antique scale is cast iron with a brass face. It is in very good condition for its age. And is complete with hanging ring and hook. You are looking at this beautiful postal scale! The quality is exquistic! Even though this scale is not in a new condition but I love the felt and weight of the scale. It looks a tad bit dirty and I refused to clean it because I love how it looks in its present condition The arrow is a bit dirty also but the scale background is still bright enough to see the numbers. It can hold up to 8 pounds(lbs) of mail on top but I can't prove that it was accurate because I just tested a 4 oz object on my reliable scale to see if it shows the same results on this scale. The results proved differently so I want you to understand that it can not be accurate to weigh your mail. Also marked on the face"Approved Type 34 Serial H New York and Penna" Lower part marked for weight of 0-100 pounds. Large it measures 18" from base of hook to top of ring. Brass Face measures 12 and 7/8th" long and 2 and 3/8th" across. It weighs 2.4 pounds. In really nice condition for age.
