Pictured is a Christian Becker Chainomatic Analytical Balance Scale that is in beautiful WORKING and LOOKING condition especially for it's age. Nothing is missing and ALL original- 1920's(easily museum quality) This would make a great gift for someone who appreciates antique scientific instruments that are so hard to find especially in such fine condition. These balances were the premier instruments used in labs for weighing in the gram to milligram range. It's made of Mahogany with a Black Glass base and measures 18" X 16" X 9" and weighs about 20 lbs. it comes with the original directions that while torn are still perfectly legible(see picture) The following is an addition to the original listing. C. BECKER ANTIQUE BALANCE c.1925 Offered is a Becker patented No.9 Chainomatic balance scale. This model was a total innovation in analytical balances. Allowing the user to weigh extremely small amounts of matter(under 100 milligrams) without riders or counter-weights. The graduated column has a chain operated vertical carriage in.001 incriments from 0.0mg to 100mg. The right exterior crank manipulates the carriage, which accurately lengthens or shortens the gold plated chain as needed to achieve equalibrium. Pan capacity is 200 grams, with a sensitivity of 1/20th of a milligram! Apparently this Chainomatic was originally U.S. Navy property, indicated by the brass Navy tag on the drawer. The enclosed Becker instruction pamphlet also verifies that the Navy owned at least two No.9 balances. The balance operates perfectly. Aside from a few scratches and and the unwanted surface wound on the drawer, the entire balance is otherwise undamaged and sound. All the parts are original to the balance including the surrounding window glass and the black plate glass base. The glass base has no flaws. The front glass panel is counter-poised, the rear panel is removable. Nothing has been repaired or has switched out parts from another balance. Many of the side crank wheels on Chainomatics are either damaged or missing, this one is intact. The crank should be safely stored in the drawer when ever the balance is moved around. Another nice feature with this balance is the AUTO-DEX movable index plate, operated via the front left knob. AUTO-DEX is another innovation, it reduces the time needed to weigh any given material. Large Antique Analytical Scientific Brass Pharmaceutical Scale Balance
I am offering a large rare antique brass analytical scientific pharmaceutical scale which is approximately 49 inches tall and 36 inches wide at its widest point. The main arm is approximately 29 inches wide and the pans are approximately 12 inches in diameter. The smaller arm measures approximately 14 inches and its pans approximately 6 1/4 inches in diameter. The base measures approximately 12 1/2 inches by 6 inches. The weight of the scale is approximately 40 lbs. Please note that the smaller arm is not completely parallel to the larger arm. It is my understand that the upper portion of the pole needs to be rotated slightly(see picture 6) I did not know how to do that and so I am leaving that to the purchaser. This Christian Becker"Chainomatic" Analytical Balance Scale is in very good condition. There are a few minor dents on the wood frame(mostly on the top cross piece of the sliding door) but the mechanical parts are in excellent condition. The scale pieces have been disassembled due to the scale being moved. The scale received its US patent(1591802) on July 6. 1926. I found evidence that these scales were used into the 1950s. These balances were the premier instruments used in labs for weighing in the gram to milligram range. I believe the frame is made of mahogany with a black glass base. The case measures 16-1/2" wide(without the 1-1/2" handle) x 17" high x 9-1/4" deep(without the 1" knob) and weighs about 20 lbs. The weights and manual are not included. The serial number is B-42847. We have this beautiful Henry Troemner Analytical Balance Scale for your consideration. Unfortunately there are some missing parts and damage however this is still a great piece of history. With some TLC this would be a wonderful piece to add to a collection. Included with the glass and wood encased scale are all the pieces shown in pictures. There are two black metal pieces one is marked with Christian Becker. Inc. Which I think must mean S a n Diego State C ollege. The case dimensions are 17" X 17" X 9 3/4" Th e scale sits on a a black slate glass fixed base that measures 16 ½” x 9 3/16” x ¼” The base is supported by three legs. The rear leg is wood. And it is not adjustable. The front two legs have threaded, adjustable metal supports that allow leveling of the balance. The front glass panel slides up to open and has a Bakelite knob on it. VINTAGE SARTORIUS - WERKE ANALYTICAL BALANCE SCALE IN SUPERB CONDITION
VINTAGE SARTORIUS BALANCE Offered is a vintage balance made in Gottingen. Germany by Sartorius-Werke. Florenz Sartorius started making balances around 1870, his company still thrives around the world today. This is a Model DP3. It introduced many innovative features, such as the air-damped oscillation reducer and the dial-a-weight selector mechanism. Pan arrest systems were common in those days, but an artificial source of reflected light used to improve balance ops was a quantum leap. In this case, the light source is aimed straight through the rear port lens, then passes through a small hole in the column. It continues to a set of mirrors and lenses, then finally to the viewing screen front and center. It's rather primitive by today's standards, but certainly displays sound mechanics. The original exterior 6V light source is long ... moregone, but fortunately it is actually not needed for the balance to function using conventional methods. A powerful little LED flashlight or a cable optic light source both substitute nicely for the stock lighting equipment. Viewing the screen is probably even brighter and clearer than with the 6V setup. Condition overall is flawless. Nothing has been replaced. Broken, repaired, refinished, or polished- everything is original. It has a 200 gram capacity(each pan) and is easily calibrated to 1/10th of a milligram. Assembly after shipping will undoubtedly require a slight re-calibration. All of the eight original sequentially heavier ring weights are present. These ring weights and the selection dial mechanism allow for weighing matter up to.999 of a gram without the use of additional weights on the opposite pan for achieving static equilibrium. Apparently this balance was once the Property of Long Beach CA, it's use remains unknown. I think it was made just after WW II, some 60 odd years ago. Used Mettler H20 analytical balance. Plugged it in and the light came on. I do not usually deal with this type of lab equiptment so I do not have tons of knowledge of these. I am offering a stunning antique analytical balance. Pre-1930's, made in Germany and distributed by Cambridge Botanical Supply Co. Waverly, Mass. complete with brass weights and 2 extra pans. This scale measures approximately 17 inches wide, 17 inches high and 9 1/2 inches deep. The scale has one drawer. Other than in the back, the case is in excellent shape and has a beautiful patina. The back of the scale at the very bottom has some damage(see photographs) I could have easily repaired this damage, however, I wanted the buyer to see the exact condition of the case. On the left side of the case, on the bottom the veneer is slightly lose and needs to be re-glued. The case is structurely sound and otherwise in excellent condition. The repair would be a minor one.
