You are looking at a combination pocket transit/compass instrument. The back of the instrument has D.W. Brunton's Pat. Sept 18. 1984. April 14. 1914. WmAinsworth& Sons. Sole Manufacturers. Pat. Oct. 22. 12. May 27. 13. Denver. Colo U.S.A. 7526. This instrument comes in the original case. The case has come unstitched along one side(see pictures) I know nothing about this piece. But it appears to be in working condition. Everything on it moves with ease, and the levels appear to be accurate. This looks like a great piece to add to anyone's collection. Vintage Ainsworth & Sons BB-M2 Analytical Scientific Scale - Superb Display Piec

I know nothing about this scale except what I read on line. I've borrowed the last 2 pictures from the Ainsworth Historical Site. They appear to be from the original brochure and are quite informative. One describes the type BB. The other describe the BB-M2. With this information I'll describe the scale as best I can. First I'd like to address the type of scale this is. The small placard inside the cabinet indicates that this is Type BB scale. However, if you read the brochure descriptions you'll see that it is definitely a Type BB-M2. The BB-M2 description clearly describes the"magnetic dampening attachments" and the"weather vane" ... morecontraption that are present in this scale and pictured clearly in the third photo. Also noticeable in the third picture is the tiny hanging gold chain. The calibration card included with the scale shows that it is at least an early 1960's scale. The case although a bit dusty inside and out is in great condition and the glass is perfect. I won't attempt to service such a delicate instrument so I'll throw in the vintage dust at no cost. The counter weighted front glass door works perfectly and the rear door is removable. All of the dials and buttons appear to work freely and the drawer slides out smoothly. The legs are adjustable and there are bubble leveling devices inside the case for accurately leveling the scale side to side and front to rear. The scale appears to be complete except for one thing. The brochure describes a rider weight. From what I can tell a lever on the side slides in and out and rotates to place this weight in a slot atop the main beam. But we don't know how to use it/test it otherwise. Cosmetic condition is good with a small scratch on the metal tag and some minor discoloration to the aluminum. It comes with it's original leather case that can be worn over the shoulder or attached to the belt. The case is in good shape with some staining. It snaps shut and locks the needle when closed. Age marks on the mirror: black spots and opaque in certain places. The Brunton Pocket Transit was said to be"the most convenient. Compact and accurate pocket instrument made for preliminary surveying on the surface or underground. It has a folding sight at north; the lid of the instrument, hinged at south and provided with sight line and small hole, serves as the second sight. Since the lid is mirrored, the user can read the needle while sighting a distant object. The needle ring is graduated to degrees. The western half of the face is graduated in degrees, in quadrants from west, and provided with a clinometer with vernier that reads to 5 minutes. EARLY 19TH CENTURY SILK WORK ADAM & EVE SAMPLER BY ELIZABETH AINSWORTH 1837
Early 19th century linen and silk work sampler by Elizabeth Ainsworth 1837. This sampler is absolutely stunning worked on extremely fine silk gauze with superb stitch work throughout. The top section of the sampler has the following words And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise. She took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat On either side of the words are two wonderful exotic birds with baskets of fruit and flowers. Beneath the words is an exquisite Tree of Life with Adam& Eve standing on each side flanked by floral bouquets. The words"Elizabeth Ainsworth Work August 22 1837 A.E.Blakey School" are written beneath. Below the words is a field with a courting couple sitting beneath a tree ... moreand sheep grazing around them. The whole thing is surrounded by an elaborate floral border. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the colours of the silks are good. I found it very difficult to photograph this sampler due to the sheen from the gauze. As a result the photos do not do justice to this wonderful sampler. As can be seen from the photographs. There are several areas of damage to the gauze due to it being so fragile but once behind glass this would be stabilised. Due to the fragile nature of the gauze I will be shipping the sampler in a box via Fedex to hopefully prevent further damage. Measures 22" x 23" ANY QUESTIONS. PLEASE ASK. The AC adapter with it is from Radio Shack and powers up Scale like it should. The Aluminum top has some tarnish on top and on the bottom of it( see pictures) On the top left corner of the front there is a small spot of some kind of residue but it's not very noticable. There is an adjustment knob on the back to fine tune scale. I tested it out on several different gram weights and it was right every time. I believe the blue paddle ends are plastic. And it seems the black handles might be metallic, as they make a pinging sound when tapped w/a fingernail. However, I am not certain of composition. One of the paddles is slightly flattened/not fully round on one end of the black handle part-see photos. They are 80" 6' 8" long and 8.25" wide at the widest point. Antique Brunton & Ainsworth Pocket Transit, Leather Case 1884
DESCRIPTION: This is a an antique Pocket Transit with a leather case. The metal case is marked on the top"D. W. Brunton Patent Sept. 18. 1884 WM. Ainsworth Sole Manufacturers Denver, Colo. U.S.A. The item has something to do with surveying. Sorry but I have limited knowledge about this item. The pocket transit has an old worn leather case that it fits in so that it can be attached to a leather belt. The leather case has been used and shows surface wear. The leather case is missing a metal buckle or some type of fastener for the strap to hold the top of the case shut. The metal case is tarnished from age and use. It needs to be polished and/or cleaned. The inside mirror is not broken and the needle moves to the right directions. The only problems I see would be that the metal case needs to be properly cleaned and two screws on the back ... moreside corners need to be replaced(see photo 11) The cover still opens with no problem. I believe it could be used as a working piece of equipment or it could simply make a conversation piece on a desk or as part of an antique tool display. I think it is in very good condition particularly for the age. SUGGESTIONS: Please read the description carefully.
