ANTIQUE CHRISTIAN BECKER MODEL No.16 DIAL CHAINOMATIC BALANCE c.1920 Offered is a Becker No.16 Dial-Reading Chainomatic Analytical Balance c.1920. This example is in remarkable extra fine condition. It has no repairs or replaced parts. Making it 100% original. The Model No. 16 dial chain mechanism revolutionized the balance industry for nearly 40 years, the design concept was simply that good. This balance has been in my collection for many years. Included on this CB No.16 are several bell& whistle factory upgrade options; the built-in magnetic oscillation dampener. The Becker patented Auto-Dex index zeroing feature, a graduated notched rider beam with the required"dumb-bell" rider weight, and the graduated circular dial with stationary vernier- reading from 1/10 mg to 100 mg. The super delicate gold"weight chain" ... moreoperates exactly the same way a regular Column Chainomatic works, crank the side wheel and weight is added to the beam by way of adding length to the weight chain from the dial pulley. A second gold chain, mounted on a series of pulleys connecting to the exterior crank handle, operates the dial wheel- which in turn manipulates the length of the weight chain. The overall condition of the balance has no negatives to elaborate on. It's as if it just came out of deep storage. I will say that there are a few very minor scratches on the cabinet wood, normal for being about 95 years old. The mahogany cabinet has a rich reddish patina, as does the balance brass. All of the beautiful French-polished gloss finish is intact. All the glass has that telltale antique wavy appearance. The original glass& rubber foot stabilizers are in the drawer, as are two watch-glass dishes( marked 41 grams each) for the balance pans. None of the brass has been polished nor wood refinished. All this balance needed was a little bit of TLC( a few drops of Liquid Gold furniture oil) and calibration. It is accurate to 1/10th of a milligram. For sale is this vintage antique brass weight set. Circa 1920's. This very nice and large brass weight set is near compete and in superb shape. The weights measure 1kg at the largest all the way to 1g. There are two missing weights though, a duplicate 5mg and the 1mg. These can be found separately on eBay though, there is a 1g weight for sale even now on eBay. The weights included are a 1kg, 500g, 200g, 100g, 100g, 50g, 20g, 10g, 10g, 5g, 2g.
