Pair of Vintage Pharmaceutical Torsion Balance Scale repair or parts
This auction is for a pair of Vintage Pharmaceutical Torsion Balance Scales. In Glass Casing and Metal Frame. They are both manufactured by the Torsion Balance company style 269 one is number 30058 and the other looks like 12400. 30058 is in better shape than 12400 although both are in poor condition. These scales can be used for parts or repairs, or even projects. They weigh about 9 pounds each and measures 11.5" x 7.5" x 5" approximately. 30058 has cracks on the both sides in the glass and is missing the glass on the front cover. 12400 has breaks and chips everywhere in the glass and has a piece of glass that has fallen our completely but I do have the piece. I am a pharmacist. I purchased a very large lot- the entire contents of a pharmacy. That lot had 2 identical scales. This being one of them. The other is currently used as a professional scale in my own pharmacy. This scale is operating exactly as a non-balanced scale should. When the arrest arm is disabled. The scales stay at center. Once weight is added to either side, then removed, the scale does NOT return to center. This is exactly what mine was doing too. To get my own scale to pass state inspection. It had to be re-balanced and certified. This cost me $98. The technician came to the pharmacy to do the overhaul, re-balance and certification. This scale will need the same service. In fact, talk to anyone who uses a professional scale or check any resource and you'll find that any scale of this style that is moved from one building ... moreto another must be re-balanced. The arrest does NOT protect the unit from this activity. ALL SCALES of this nature MUST BE RE-BALANCED when they are moved across any real distance; only a kid-glove move from one counter to another would be ok. Anything would require a re-balance. Vintage Torsion Balance Model DRX. Class A, Capacity 120 gm, from my Dad's Pharmacy. There are some light brown spots on the inside back grey area of the lid primarily left side, but the surface is smooth. There are also a small amount of very light brown spots on the metal pans, but those are smooth as well. I have never used this item, and I'm not sure how to operate, adjust, or calibrate it. However, currently the pans do not balance by simply turning the big dial on the front. I added 500 mg(5 grams) to the left pan and then I could balance it perfectly with the big dial. I will remove the pans and the metal plates under them to pack outside the device in the same box. I will also lock the system with the lower small knob in the front. Rare Vintage Torsion Balance Base - Wooden Box With Drawer - Updated
This Wooden Base fits Torsion Balance Models DRX and RX-1 for sure. The box dimensions are about 12.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 inches. It should fit other models as long as the legs are the same distances apart. The distance between the 3 metal leg holders on top are as follows. Distance between the inside edges of the front two leg holders is 9 inches. Distance from the inside edges from one of the front metal leg holders to the back one is 5 3/8 inches. The drawer slides smoothly and works perfectly. The front knob on the drawer is missing but the existing bolt is easy to grab and functions well as a handle. It's large enough and not sharp. If aesthetics are important. I don't think it would be hard to put another knob on this bolt with some glue or use a new knob/screw/bolt in the existing hole. The existing bolt(current handle) unscrews, and ... morecan be removed. In the upside down pics. You can see the rear wooden leg is missing on the bottom of the box. I secured a round head smooth screw in the rear leg hole and the weight of the scale will not push it down. The screw is strong and level with the other two legs, and functions perfectly as a leg. I have a very nice 1882 Springer Torsion Balance which is complete except for one side panel of glass that was broken. Everything appears to be in working condition. The 2 plates on top also look very good. The unit measures. 10" x 20" x 9-1/2" and is 31 pounds. The top plates measure 9" On the front glass it has a calibration sticker from Webster, Mass. The unit needs a major cleaning, side glass replaced and you would have a wonderful item from the 1800's. Due to the age and quality of this item I did not clean it as I would leave that to someone who knows the unit. It will be carefully packed with peanuts. Bubble rap and sent priority mail with insurance and signature required. I am a collector and picker. My opinion is that this unit would look awesome in any location. Here is a vacuum chamber by Torbal/ The Torsion Balance co. model AJ-2. Both chambers just by themselves measure 8 1/4" tall. 5 3/4" wide without the top in place. Has 3 of the 1/4" fritted inlets plus a spot for a guage. Included is a spare chamber with top and misc clamps. Note the white clamp is the only one that will work on the chambers, I think the others are missing an alignment piece in the middle. I will charge extra to ship this to a PO box. This is an item out of our personal collection that we have enjoyed and are ready to move in to a new home for someone else to enjoy. This is a cast iron porcelain-coated balance scale with copper trays. Really attractive. Unique piece. Some staining apparent on the porcelain. When I originally got it there was a fair amount of paint splatter all over the scale. I have cleaned most of it off but there are still some clear traces of where the paint was. Most apparent in pics 2 and 4 but there are streaks all over the item. Scale does work! Approximately 10"L x 5"W x 10"H(including top of balance bar. This is the Torsion Balance from the Torsion Balance Company and is model RX-1. I believe it has a 120 G Capacity as shown on the mounting label. The scale has been sitting for a long time as it was purchased from an estate auction. There are definite signs of wear as can hopefully be seen in the photos but it appears that the functions are all working. I do not know if anything is missing so please bid according to what is shown in the photographs. Whatever the exact condition. I am listing this at a most ridiculous start price with no reserve. Vintage/Antique Torsion Balance Scale Model DRX Class A 120g
Used Scale. Not sure if it works. Though it seems in good condition I don't know anything about it. I found it in the garage of a house I just moved into. The garage is enclosed and attached to the house, so it wouldn't have had too many drastic temperature changes. The scales move smoothly and the bottom knob tightens and loosens the tension of the scales. I don't know what the large knob does, and the level on the side works fine. Feel free to ask questions, but I may not be able to answer them.
