Old brass scale with weights. Measures 23" tall overall and 14 3/4" wide, base is 7 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 2. Trays measure 6" in diameter and about 1" deep. Rare 1850's Antique Pocket Gold or Doctors Scale with Case and Weights
You are bidding on a Rare Antique Brass Pocket Scale used for Measuring Gold or Medicines for Doctors. This particular scale was used in the Doctor's Office of Dr William McIntire of Warrensburg. Ohio, from 1850 to 1900, according to the card found in the box. This scale is rare and was used for gold mining and measuring medicine. Look at other scale from this period, they usually are missing the chains holding the pans and the chains have been replaced by string. This scale is intact with chains and comes with period brass weights and some later era round, I think zinc or lead, weights. The wood box is in good conditions with the hinges and latch work just fine. The interior of the box is lined with green felt and the area where the weights are stored, the wood is loose and needs a little repair. Vintage Brass Balance Beam Scale w/ Weights in Black Case - from an Estate Sale
Up for sale is this vintage brass balance beam scale in a fabric covered carrying case(the fabric seems to be velour or velvet; something soft) We bought it from a guy who said that he acquired it at an estate sale. Please see the pictures and read below for details on the condition of the item. The case measures about 8& 1/4 inches long and about 4& 5/8 inches wide. When closed. The case is about 1& 1/8 inches thick. From what I can tell, the scale set is complete except for a pair of tweezers for picking up the smaller weights(there appears to be an empty slot in the fabric for tweezers) There is one 20 gram weight, two 10 gram weights, one 5 gram weight, two 2 gram weights, one 1 gram weight, one 500mg weight, two 200mg weights, one 100mg weight, one 20mg weight, and one 5mg weight. The scale set is self-contained. The post ... morefor the scale screws into a brass inset threaded cylinder and then the actual balance hangs from that post. My wife and I have used it to weigh stuff for fun and it is fully functional. As for the condition of the item, it has obviously been used. The brass has tarnish and discoloration and the surface has scratches, dings, marks, and stains. The inside of the case is also covered in velour( and each weight has its own indentation where it is to sit, although these indentations are not crystal clear because the inside fabric is not glued into the indentations of the actual case. These indentations are not really secure; when one weight is pushed down into its space, the ones next to it tend to come up from the fabric moving. When the case is closed and turned over, the smaller items inside tend to move around and come out of place(I don't think this is abnormal, I am only mentioning it so that the recipient is aware that they are going to open it up for the first time after it is shipped and it is going to be discombobulated) The latches on the outside of the case are functional, but wiggle around a little and have denting, scratching, and chips on their surface(I don't

I would guess, to the mid 1800s. The hand-held balance beam is cast iron, 5 1/2 inches long. The scale pans are spun brass 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The weights are mostly brass 1/2 inch square. The box measures 6 3/4 x 3 x 1 inches. It is made of wood and has an oilcloth? cover with an embossed eagle on the lid. The pan strings are as-found and must be replaced if you want to use the scale. Included in this auction are: Ten RARE Platform scale weights(9 marked SOUTHERN 3-4 10) One is unmarked and it is larger and fits at the bottom of the hook. ANTIQUE MID 19TH CENTURY ASSAY BALANCE SCALE WITH WEIGHTS MADE IN GERMANY
Up for sale is a very rare Rudolf Flume made in Germany antique brass mid 19th Century 100g balance scale for precious metals set on a wood box with a drawer. Included is a wood box of brass weights and some loose grain and mg weights as shown. The wooden weight box has some staining. But in decent condition for age. The brass weights include 100g, 50g, 20g, 2) 10g, 5g, and(2) 2g weights. Along with these weights there are 6 loose weights including the following: 1-1 2 grain, 1-9 grain, 1-500mg, 2-200mg, and 1-50mg weight. These scales were very popular with gold miners during this period. The scale is approx. 16" tall x 11 3/4" wide x 4 1/4" deep. The wooded weight box is approx. 5 3/4" long, 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/2' deep. The weight dishes have a 4" circumfrence. As seen in the picture the scale shows a marking ... moreof 100g and two hallmarks which I cannot identify. The name Rudolf Flume is on the wooden box. This particlar scale uses a pully system seen in the pictures to reset the scale. I am not an expert in this so if I have made any major mistatements please let me know. I have also include a business card that was in the drawer from Montana Assay Office, Portland, Oregon. I did some research and this card probably was made around 1903. As you can see on the reverse side are gold prices of the time. For instance 14K gold was selling for 94 cents per dwt, which was an abbreviation for pennyweight. 1 gram=.643 dwt and 1 0unce of gold= 20dwt. Based on this my calculations I show that 1 ounce of gold at this time was being purchase for approximately $18.80 oz. The price of gold was steady in the $18.80 range from 1850 to 1915, maybe even earlier. This scale will make a beautiful addition to any antique collection. The scale is in good to very good condition. The brass has the normal wear and tear and cosmetic wear for it's age. The wood looks very nice. This really is a great boxed set of scale weights. A walnut case which is fitted for 13 brass scale weights and also includes a tweezers and some light weights under glass. ALL of the weights are original to the box. The top of the lid has the original padded felt lining. The exterior of the box has a smooth even finish-note the brass swivel locks for the top. This auction is for an antique Voland& Sons weights. Balance and scale measurement system. Voland himself immigrated to the US from Germany. It was reported he worked for Thomas Edison in his early days. In partnership with Vanzelm, he formed the Voland& Vanzelm Company. After the partner died, in 1903 he brought in his sons. It remained Voland& Sons until 1945, when it was bought by another company. Voland scales are known for quality, and precision. This model is pre 1920's. It is a wood frame, with glass inserts. The scale is brass and other metals. As you can see in the pictures the drawer pulls out, and the weights inside are included with the scale. It measures 23" tall, 23" wide and 11" deep. Antique German Made Analytical Balance Scale Including Brass Weights in Box
I am offering a stunning antique analytical balance. Pre-1930's, made in Germany and distributed by Cambridge Botanical Supply Co. Waverly, Mass. complete with brass weights and 2 extra pans. This scale measures approximately 17 inches wide, 17 inches high and 9 1/2 inches deep. The scale has one drawer. Other than in the back, the case is in excellent shape and has a beautiful patina. The back of the scale at the very bottom has some damage(see photographs) I could have easily repaired this damage, however, I wanted the buyer to see the exact condition of the case. On the left side of the case, on the bottom the veneer is slightly lose and needs to be re-glued. The case is structurely sound and otherwise in excellent condition. The repair would be a minor one. Ohaus school balance scale model#1200. Original box shows moderate to heavy wear. Lid is missing. Scale originally came with 8 calibration weights there are now 11. Both plastic treys have had some color added to them but are in good condition, nothing chipped or cracked. Gram weights are marked on top to indicate size(pictured) Calibration knob is in good working condition and zero's out the scale with minimum adjustment. Scale is in overall good working condition. This is a Vintage Daube& Hopken Gold& Silver Scale and Weights. This is a type 17 Serial U-3. The balance operates and calibrated. It's in excellent condition for a piece that's almost 100 years of age. The balance case is in great shape and the windows are not broken or cracked. The entire balance is pretty sound. All the parts are original to the balance including the surrounding cabinet glass. The front glass panel lifts up and has latches so it will stay open, the rear panel is removable. Nothing has been repaired or has switched out parts from another balance. The case dimensions are 16.5"W X 15.5"H X 7.5"D. Weight is about 35 pounds packed up. Some mass weights are included.
