I do not know what was the purpose of this weight unless it was around something that was not to cause a spark for fire. And the scale dates to the late 1700s. The set includes a small balance scale with two pans and then several really great little gram weights. The box measures about 5 1/8” L x 2 ½” W x 1” H, and the set is in great condition with some wear here and there and to the string holding up the pans. Great set and guaranteed old!
