While this piece is extremely patinaed, rusted and pitted(a few hundred years of moisture will do that! it remains strong, fully functional and is clean to the touch. I am sure that you folks who collect scales know a lot more about this then I do, I am guessing that it was attached by the chain to a platform, I remember as a kid there being one similar to this built into the dock of the feed store. I can unbolt this and package it up a lot smaller for shipping. Counterweight has the number LC54970 cast into it. The weight holder has the number B2554 cast into it. The left side features a removable tray. The base has slots for 5 weights which are all present. There is also 1 additional weight included. The additional weight is damaged. There is a layer that has been removed approximately half way around. This weight is marked 100 on the top, it weighs 99.3 grams. The included weights are not marked. They weigh 61.9, 30.9, 15.4, 7.8, and, 3.9 grams. The slider on the arm is marked 120 crn or 7 8/10 grams. The scale needs to be calibrated. Large Antique Analytical Scientific Brass Pharmaceutical Scale Balance
I am offering a large rare antique brass analytical scientific pharmaceutical scale which is approximately 49 inches tall and 36 inches wide at its widest point. The main arm is approximately 29 inches wide and the pans are approximately 12 inches in diameter. The smaller arm measures approximately 14 inches and its pans approximately 6 1/4 inches in diameter. The base measures approximately 12 1/2 inches by 6 inches. The weight of the scale is approximately 40 lbs. Please note that the smaller arm is not completely parallel to the larger arm. It is my understand that the upper portion of the pole needs to be rotated slightly(see picture 6) I did not know how to do that and so I am leaving that to the purchaser. The scale is in really great shape for its age. The pictures posted depict its condition well. It is very unusual to be able to ... morefind this scale with all its weights which this one has. Antique 19th Century German Cast Iron 1K Equal Armed Balance Scale w Seahorses
This is a beautiful. All original, not restored, authentic German/Austrian balance scale. According to the estate owner I purchased this from. This antique balance scale was first owned by a German shopkeeper at the end of the 19th century, somewhere between 1850-1890. Used for measuring lighter objects. Like salt, rare spices, postal parcels, hard currency, gems and medication, this is a rare 1K model complete with metal forged sea horses that meet each other when the scales are equally weighted. Other than"1K" it is unmarked and a very early style. As shown. This cast iron scale does not come with plates that may have once been included. Although plates were not typically includes with this type of scale until much later after its invention, it would be fairly easy to find appropriately sized metal or glass plates to fit onto ... morethe top of each end if you desire. If you intend to use it as a scale, you'll likely need to calibrate. What a conversation piece! In wonderful worn but functional condition with original paint. It looks amazing on display and would be a dramatic focal point on a mantle, dining room table, in your kitchen or placed among your antique store or pharmacy collectibles. This style of scale is also referred to as an equal arm scale and balance. This is a Becker Chainomatic Analytical Balance Scale. Users are able to weigh extremely small amounts of matter(under 100 milligrams) The graduated column has a chain operated vertical carriage in.001 incriments from 0.0mg to 100mg. The right exterior crank manipulates the carriage. Which accurately lengthens or shortens as needed to achieve equalibrium. Pan capacity is 200 grams, with a sensitivity of 1/20th of a milligram! Apparently this Chainomatic was originally State of Minnesota property, indicated by the stamp on the side. The balance operates and needs to be calibrated. It's in excellent condition for a piece that's probably pushing 80 or so years of age. The balance case is in great shape and the windows are not broken or cracked. The entire balance is pretty sound. All the parts are original to the balance including the ... moresurrounding cabinet glass and the black plate glass base. The front glass panel is counter-poised, the rear panel is removable. Nothing has been repaired or has switched out parts from another balance. Many of the side crank wheels on Chainomatics are either damaged or missing, this one is intact. The case dimensions are 19"W X 20"H X 12"D. Weight is about 35 pounds packed up. A bull's-eye type bubble level and adjustable feet insure proper set-up. No mass weights are included. However, they are easily found under this Catagory. Shipping can be quite expensive. The mahogany box, which measures about 6" by 2 3/4" by 1 1/4' closed, opens from one end with the scale suspended from the underside of the lid. This is antique scale of the type often seen during the late 1880 to about 1920 in apothecary. Pharmacy and small stores. This is marked with a trademark showing a balance bean scale arm and the words"PRAE" then a star and"CISION" which we have tried to find out more about but could not. The scale also is marked 10Kg the beam arm. We couldn't find any other marks. It includes a set of W. T. Avery weights as marked; 1 lb AVERY Ltd- inner stamp on lead looks like crown. G, and 9 can't make out the R, A21, 24, 25,27,not sure if this is 23 or 28)31,33,34 8 oz AVERY Ltd- inner stamp on lead crown. GR,9- several marks on bottom J21, 24,25,26,27,31,33,34 4 oz W& T. AVERY Ld- inner stamp on lead looks like 27.7. Crown, GR, not sure of what is below that, no stamps on bottom. 2 oz W& T. We could find no marking other than already stated as to the maker. Apears to be European. This was found in NH. We have left as found as some collectors prefer the original patina. I have taken alot of picture to show all the parts, it looks to be complete, but can not tell as I can't find any information as to the maker. Antique Vintage General Store Spring Balance Meat Scale Up for auction is an antique Morton’s Improved spring balance meat scale such as would have been used in a General Store. On the face of the scale it says. Warranted New York 1871. The scale hand does move freely when weight is applied but it does return to zero. As is shown in the photos. The front appears to be white porcelain with three of the corners chipped off and at some point has been re-touched with paint. The back of the scale has been repainted at some point in time also. The scale. Not counting the hooks, is 10 ¾ inches long and the dial measures 5 ¼ inches across. This would make an excellent decorative item to hang a plant from or an antique basket in your kitchen.
