Set of Antique Vtg Brass Scale Weights Seal Balance w Wooden Holder Apothecary
This set of brass scale weights came from an auction in Vermont. The seal on the back reads- Department of_ measures. Sealed, inspector, not detach or deface under penalty. Seal of the state of New Hampshire 1776. The seal is not complete, this is all I could make out. The smallest weight is missing. The weights are engraved on the top as follows- kilo(this one is also marked Z-1 HV? City I believe) 1 lb avd, 8 oz avd, 2 oz avd, 1 oz avd, 1/2, 1/4. There are use marks and some tarnishing. The wooden holder measures 8 1/8" long by 4" wide, and just under 2 1/2" high. The wooden holder has quite a few use marks, see the 9th picture.

The scale measures 32 3/8" long. 1 1/2" wide at center, 6 3/4" high at hook, and weighs 2 lbs. 9.6 ounces. According to the graduating weight markings, this scale will hold 200 pounds of weight. The scale is marked with the manufacturers name, but I cannot make it out. As you can see in the photos due to age the finish is gone from the iron but it is still intact with no cracks or separations. The two hanging weights measure 2 1/8" in diameter and both are marked 10 LBS. However, they only weigh around 1 pound each, could be that I am reading it wrong, so I have added a close up of marking for you to see. They too are lacking their complete original finish but again, no chips, dings, dents or separations. Antique Portable Diamond Scale Balance, Neat!
Antique Pocket Diamond Balance w/ Weights. This is a neat old balance that folds up into a small wooden box that can be carried in a small pocket. The box is only about 1" x 2 1/2" x 5" As you can see. The balance comes out of the box, and is suspended from any handy spot. The weights are marked in C(carats) or in points(hundredths of a carat) and there are probably some extras in here, enough to total more than 10 carats. The box lid is warped, and there is a latch arrangement that needs a small rod built to make it work, but this is a fairly simple job if you are at all handy. If not, well, there's always Wal Mart. This was probably made for the Canadian Post office, the other stamp is POD ep T Canada. The scales are brass, the center is cast iron that is painted black. Overall condition is good to very good. The scale is still in great shape for its age, with a very mild fine rusting. It has a logo tag on it but its in alittle ruff shape and i cant really read it but with some research im lead to believe it says Soiltest Inc. but im not 100% sure. Found in the old ranch attic it is uncleaned as found and is approx 8 1/2" long from the top of the ring to the bottom of the hook with graduations up to 25 pounds. The brass face can be cleaned and polished and perhaps a little lubricant on the spring. These old scales are great for hanging a nice fern from a hook in the ceiling. It is 4 1/2" X 12" and has a 4 1/4" iron hook below. The scale is complete and working. The top says Chatillion's Improved Circular Spring Balance To Weigh 60 lb. Milk Scale. Small type below the round dial area says"Each 20 lb. is marked on the slide. The intermediate weight is on the circle" Condition is pretty good. Both gauge needles show wear and some minor bends on the steel. The brass front has some finish stains from a chemical splat. There is a large silver rivet on the upper left corner. Looks like one of ... morethe original brass rivets was lost. And replaced by a large silver one. There is old rust and wear on the hanging loop, back side, and lower hook. Offering as found, as is. Up for bid is an antique set of 5 glass balance scale weights. The largest one measures 3 1/4" tall and is marked 1 Kg. The next one is measures 2 1/2" tall and is marked 1/2 Kg. The third one is 1 7/8" tall and is marked 200 g. The fourth one is 1 5/8" tall and is marked 100 g. The fifth one is 1 3/8" and marked 50 g. The marks are in mold and there are no chips or cracks. This balance scale came from an auction in Vermont. One tray is missing. It appears to be the original dark red paint. It is made out of cast iron. It has alot of markings. The front plate reads Henry Troemner maker Philadelphia. PA Cap 210 gr No. 5B made in U.S.A. On the back is embossed NO 5W Baker's. The end cap reads Penna& NYC Appd type 17 Serial W2. The top round mark reads Elmer& Amend New York. The scale weighs almost 7 pounds. It comes with 6 weights. It measures 12 1/4" long, 9 1/2" high to the highest point, and 4 1/2" deep. A lovely example of a pocket coin balance. The mahogany sliding top box measures just 5 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 7/8" 135mm x 55mm x 22mm) and is in super condition- no cracks. Splits or chips. It houses a 5" 127mm) brass balance arm with box ends suspending 2 x 1 3/4" 45mm) brass pans from green silk strings. The bottom of the box is lined with dark green velvet. There are two weights, both cut brass type, well finished and engraved with 4 penny and 2 penny. The photograph of the item for sale and the more common larger boxed scales is for comparison only. This is vintage and has a nice brass scale that's an art deco style.The center has a a mans figure head of a Greek god or maybe soldier.There is a beautiful design also on the top center.It stands on a single solid piece of white marble.With a brass base on top of it that holds all the original brass counter weights.There is some green oxidation on the the base and a little spotting in the pans from their age.This gives the scale a very nice patina. The marble base has 4 clawed brass feet.It measures approximately 21.5" from the base of the feet to the top of the scale.Approx 19" wide x approximately 6-7" deep.Stamped made in Greece in the brass base. Neat Balance Scale This Scale comes with 2 tin trays. These trays are marked left and right on the tab like handle. This is Model DLM2-1 Scale from The Torsion Balance Company from Clifton, New Jersey, this scale was Made in U.S.A. and is No. 171950 and has a 120 g Capacity. This scale does not have its weights! The scale appears to be complete with all the knobs being present, the dial on the front turns freely and is numbered from 1 to 10, it is also makred with a letter"G" on this dial. The lid on this scale lifts open and has both the silver colored pieces for the trays to sit on. The piece on the inside for balance is present as well, it does appear that around the balance piece shows signs of potential rust. This scale is gray in color, the plastic window like features are present with no damage, however the gray paint is ... morescratched in several places. Someone has stuck a sticker on the side of this scale and I have not made any attempt to remove it in fear of damaging the paint. This scale is 11 1/2" long, 8" tall and 6" deep approximately, this scale is marked with several additional stickers on the scale, one of the stickers reads"Missouri Department of Agriculture" which is numbered 009202, another sticker that is on the back is a bright orange color, this sticker is an approval sticker from the U.S. Department of Agriculture which is also marked Federal Grain Inspection Service. Written on this sticker is a date of 2/87, I am not an expert on this scale so I'm not sure if it works or is in balance. This scale be used or added to a collection of industrial items or scales.
