Very unusual vintage brass scale with the eagle of justice on the top and a dolphin fish as the center post. I've never seen one like this before and have not been able to find one in my research. The scale measures 19 1/2 inches tall and 12 inches wide(arms only. Not including the pans) With the pans, it is about 18 inches wide. This is a graceful, elegant scale that I've had in my family for years. My mother bought it when my father was stationed overseas in the mid last century and is probably from Italy although there are no markings on it. She bought several other scales in Italy at that time. It has a white marble base and the rest is in brass. It's amazing how balanced the pans are(many of the old ones like this do not balance equally) My mother had the scale cleaned and treated with a lacquer finish years ago which has ... morepreserved it beautifully except for some pitting on the pans. This is a used Cent-O-Gram Triple Balance beam scale. Model CG 311. It was made by Ohaus, and has 311 gram capacity. It was previously used by a jeweler for weighing gemstones and metals, though can be used for weighing anything in the size/weight range. The weights slide, it does need dusted off, and it would benefit from a nice, gentle cleaning once in the hands of the buyer. It has a bubble level on it to make sure it is level when weighing things. It comes with two balance weights, and a removable pan. It stands between 11-12" high x about 14" x 4 1/2. I has one spot of paint missing where the bottom pan swings over, its screw hits the base. Otherwise its in amazing condition. I don't know much about these things so please ask questions.

Florenz Sartorius started making balances around 1870, his company still thrives around the world today. This is a Model DP3. It introduced many innovative features, such as the air-damped oscillation reducer and the dial-a-weight selector mechanism. Pan arrest systems were common in those days, but an artificial source of reflected light used to improve balance ops was a quantum leap. In this case, the light source is aimed straight through the rear port lens, then passes through a small hole in the column. It continues to a set of mirrors and lenses, then finally to the viewing screen front and center. It's rather primitive by today's standards, but certainly displays sound mechanics. The original exterior 6V light source is long ... moregone, but fortunately it is actually not needed for the balance to function using conventional methods. A powerful little LED flashlight or a cable optic light source both substitute nicely for the stock lighting equipment. Viewing the screen is probably even brighter and clearer than with the 6V setup. Condition overall is flawless. Nothing has been replaced. Broken, repaired, refinished, or polished- everything is original. It has a 200 gram capacity(each pan) and is easily calibrated to 1/10th of a milligram. Assembly after shipping will undoubtedly require a slight re-calibration. All of the eight original sequentially heavier ring weights are present. These ring weights and the selection dial mechanism allow for weighing matter up to.999 of a gram without the use of additional weights on the opposite pan for achieving static equilibrium. Further research of the item places it manufactured between the 1850’s and 1870’s and many of these vintage scales were handmade. Inscribed, Henry Troemner- MAKER- Philadelphia" on the balance arm and in excellent, original condition. Used as a shop counter scale for weighing spices, tobaccos etc. due to the large size of the scoop pan. The bearing surfaces for the knife edges are AGATE and the metal is reportedly BRASS. The surface is untouched per advice of ISASC. It is extremely large(44" tall) and heavy(47#+) with a 6.5-7" diameter base. This VINTAGE OHAUS scale was made for The William Pike Company Detroit Michigan. It is made of cast steel with 2 glass discs. The original weight set is included with the following weights: 1)500g(1)200g(2)100g(1)50g(1)20g(2)10g(1)5g(2)2g in a very nice vintage box with no lid and no damage. I notice no rust on this scale. Only what looks like tarnish on the arms holding the 1-10 scale. The paint is in nice condition with no chips. The badges have worn paint could be the way they age. The OHAUS badge is worn. I dont know much about scales and definately not about balance scales but this one seems to work. The level scale and pointer will be removed for shipping, do not throw away packing material until you install it all.

This has got to be one of the most interesting Scales/ lamps on ebay. It looks to be made of solid brasses and some type of worm wood If the scale here was made to be a functioning scale at one time I don't know. But if it was made to just be a decoration they went to extremes here because it is so well made. Even has a adjustable weight and ots of solid brass! Mounted to a lamp that does function the scale has two small flaws but neither one stops it from displaying so well.first is the brass stem that mounts the scale to the lamp is cracked all the way around which can cause the scale read gauge to swing downwards and the second thing.the dish has a 1/2 crack in it. Fabulous Rustic Primitive Old Vintage Hanging Balance Scale Brass Wood I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and shop with another ebayer seller from out of town recently- a real catfish moment. Because we’ve talked for years, but never met! No surprises, just all fun and did we shop until we dropped! I have lots of very cool items for you that I will be listing all week. Enjoy! This is one of my favorites this week. It's a drop dead gorgeous primitive hanging balance scale. I'm calling it old vintage because it certainly is. But very well may be old enough to be antique. The scale has two hand hammered round brass pans that are suspended by iron or steel chain from a wood balance that has a killer patina. The balance has a loop at the top for hanging- this one is ready for your kitchen or seasonal displays! It measures 17 7/8" ... moreacross the wood top, each pan is 7 1/4" diameter by 3/4" tall, and the piece measures 24" tall from the top loop to the bottom of the pans when hanging with both pans even, and 24" wide pane side to pan side. It weighs a little over 2 1/2 lbs all together. It is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. The patina of the brass is dark, but the patina of the iron and wood is even darker. The wood has lots of rustic wear in nicks, scratches, scrapes, light spots, dark spots- you can see double vertical lines on the sides of the wood balance, with some mostly or totally worn off. The steel(or iron a magnet sticks to it) chain and hardware is very dark, with surface rust that can be seen- the top hanging loop has the most- it's all over the loop, but it's totally sturdy. It looks like the former owner put a coat of varnish or polyurethane on the piece as it has a semi gloss finish- that's good, because it's preventing any further rusting of the metal.
