Vintage Brown & Sharpe, No.47, 1"-2", 0.001" Outside Micrometer Smooth Accurate
Brown& Sharpe is a division of Hexagon Metrology. Inc. a multinational corporation focused mainly on metrological tools and technology. During the 19th and 20th centuries, Brown& Sharpe was one of the best-known and most influential firms in the machine tool industry. It produced high quality instruments that are still in demand today. I am guessing that this micrometer is from the early 1930's. It weighs 6 oz. and everything- thimble, lock, and ratchet- all works well. Since this is a vintage model, it does have some pitting and discoloration, but not on the spindle, just on the thimble and body. Somewhere in its history, an owner stamped in a small discrete name or logo on the front. Carefully look at the photos to be sure that you will be satisfied with this unit.

Unfortunately, I do not have the knowledge or the equipment to officially test these types of items for accuracy. Contact point responds easily with touch and returns right back to 0 with no resistance. Screen has some scratches, but you can still see everything clearly. There is a little nick in the metal on the outside rim(next to the screen) Please see photos. There are some surface scratches on the metal here and there(please see photos) A few are deep. ... more29" GE" and"DDG138" have been etched into the metal. The smallest dial does not quite sit at 0. I'm not sure how to adjust this or if it's adjustable at all. There is some masking tape wrapped around the piece at the top. None of these things seem to affect performance. Nice used Mitutoyo 0-2" range dial indicator w/ 001" increments and travels.100" per revolution w/ a secondary dial to track the revs. Indicator is very clean and works nicely. The return spring is good& strong and the dial repeats consistently. The biggest flaw on it is that the crystal has some scratches. But they are not severe enough to impede the view of the dial. Comes with a styrofoam lined storage box for it, but it's not the original Mitutoyo box. Also included is a brand new, in the box Starrett 657Y indicator holder with a.250" diameter shank. PLEASE: Zoom in& examine the 1 2 high resolution pictures closely. T hey are of exactly what you will be receiving. And are a very important part of the description. I ship fast!
