Here we have a truly Stunning Antique Microscope being made of Nikel Metal with Brass Stage. its condition is just perfect and in full working condition. As can be seen there is a Single Brass Eyepiece Lens BUT no Objective Lenses included. Its Decorative Base in Engraved' BECK LONDON' with gold coloured striping throughout. At its smallest this Microscope measures 10 ins tall The central stem is engraved' 15222' which I assume will give you its date as I have no idea of its age etc? As can be seen its condition its Nikel Metal parts are extremely shiny even though I have not attempted any polishing or cleaning whatsoever for fear of ruining its originality. Amazing English Brass Binocular Microscope. Circa 1870. In Very Good Condition and Working Order This English polished brass binocular microscope. In excellent condition and working like new, is a collector’s piece dating from the 19th century(circa 1870) Its lovely metal design, stylized and with fine mobile parts, is highly remarkable just like its great working order. All its parts are original and well preserved, providing a fluid operation and a high vision quality. The microscope comes in a beautiful wooden case with the original lock and key, containing also a sliding small wooden box with glass plates: samples from the late 1900s. The glass is also perfectly preserved and contributes to the correct operation of the microscope. This is a binocular microscope and this characteristic turns it into a very special item. This auction features an early 1900s portable student Bausch&Lomb Optical Co. microscope with it's original handcrafted wooden dovetailed case. The microscope is marked on the tube. BAUSCH&LOMB OPTICAL CO. ROCHESTER, N.Y. and also has a serial number of 142,410 on the eye piece which we believe dates it to the early 1900s. We are NOT experts with these, we don't know if it works as it's supposed to, we don't know all of what might be missing, and what is included is photographed, and the microscope is sold, AS IS. Please ask any questions before bidding, and be sure to look over the photos carefully. We have not cleaned the microscope or the case, leaving that choice to the winning bidder. Following is what we do know. The microscope measures about 12 1/2" tall(with the eye piece down) x 4" x 7" All ... morethe wheels turn. The turret turns, The double sided illuminator mirror is intact, turns and is in great condition without cracks or blemishes and the condenser lens& diaphragm? turn out from beneath the stage plateform, which as can be seen is missing it's clips. It has 3 objective lenses attached to the turret and includes 3 black storage cases for them. The beautifully handcrafted dovetailed wooden case has a lovely warm patina. Measures approximately 15" x 7" x 7 1/4" It is missing the handle on top, and the key to lock it. We don't know if the side lock is original or added later. Mahogany, glazed slide cabinet is the finest I have handled in over 15 years selling antique microscopes and slides. There are 20 drawers, nineteen of which can comfortably hold 48 3" x1" slides. The bottom drawer, No20, is slightly deeper and is not divided, but could comfortably hold another 48 slides. Please note: SLIDES NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE Condition Report There are various minor issues with this cabinet. Commensurate with it's age and other contemporary examples I have handled: The drawers are all free sliding. With one being a bit stubborn. Some of the original knobs are a little chewed at the edges. With one having a little more than half of the ... moreoriginal pull remaining. All of the drawer bases are pine wood and of sound construction. But each one has a horizontal crack across the width due to shrinkage(see image for a typical example) I would suggest that lining the compartments with paper would be the best way to display slides. The key is missing. So one door springs out a little(perhaps 1cm) from the closed position. This could be remedied by the fitting of a new lock, or perhaps sourcing a key for the existing one(note that the female part of the lock(not present) would also need fitting) The thin moulding strip running down the middle of the two doors has had about 2 inches of restoration at the bottom end. There are two vertical cracks to the thin panel of wood on the back of the cabinet(ie. the side that would face the wall) Patina is very appealing. Along with typical marks and dings, none of which distract from the impressive appearance. All in all. The exercise of patiently filling this magnificent cabinet with suitably fine nineteenth-century mounts would be a very satisfying endeavour. This Milben microscope was my departed husband's. I did some research and found out that the Milben microscope's started in the late 1930's. The wooden box that it comes in has some scratches but overall is in good condition. There are parts that are missing from inside the box but is a good microscope that is in very good to excellent condition. It looks like the missing parts consist of tweezers.
