Well built bike with clean lugs, brazed on pump ends and brazed on chain guard mounts. 26"x 1 3/8" tires are rotted, and will be removed before shipping to save weight. Original crankset and headset. At first I thought the wheels and brakes were replacements, but found a Torpedo ad circa 1956(see the Sturmey Archer Heritage website, 1956 Torpedo USA ad) with the same Universal brakes, Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub and aluminum(made in Italy) rims listed as on this bike. A pretty"universal" bike for it's time, or just a matter of post-war parts shortages. Original paint is very faded with some bare metal, but decals and pinstripes are ... morestill evident enough to use for patterns for restoration. Spokes are rusted and need replacing, handlebars, seatpost, crank and crank arms need replating. Right side crank arm is bent. Fenders are complete and better than they should be. Our signs are put onto salvaged lumber and or beachcombed wood we find after winter and spring storms that have washed lumber and other wood debris onto the beaches. We also use reclaimed wood that was destined for the landfill. We did sand all the edges to make sure there were no bad slivers or ruff spots and to give it that worn look. The newly cut ends have been painted and sanded to give them a matching worn look like the rest of the wood sign. It can be rested against a wall on a shelf or you could screw these to the wall or post also. Some of the wood is cracked. Warped and worn from salt water and sand blowing on it. Schumann Four Dresden Demitasse Cups & Saucers - U.S. Zone Germany - c.1945-49
These are four vintage. Demitasse cup and saucer sets made by Schumann of Bavaria, Germany in a dainty pattern of strewn Dresden flowers on a bright white background. All pieces are stamped"Schumann Bavaria Germany U.S. Zone" which means they were made between 1945 and 1949. The cups have ribbed borders and loop handles; the saucers are scalloped and all are rimmed with gold. The saucers are 4.5" wide; the cups are 1.5" tall and 3.75" wide. The only issue I can find is a small flea bite on one cup rim. They are in excellent vintage condition. Lovely examples of Schumann Dresden-style art. The dark green accents on the man’s coat are slightly raised and can be felt when running your finger across it. It can also be seen when tipping the plate towards a light. Although I could not get a photo of this. It is trimmed with gold throughout the reticulated part and on the rim. The center decal has no scratches. No wear to the gold trim. Except a very, very small amount on the rim(example last photo) There are no chips. Cracks, scratches, stains, crazing or repairs. A very nice plate! 7.5” dia. 1.25” high. 40's Krautheim Musetta. Selb Bavaria Germany"US Zone" 10" Dinner Plate This week we are listing a few items in a gorgeous Bavarian China from the 1940's. They are both beautiful and of significant historic interest. This plate is in very good condition; it has minor gilt wear at the rim and only a couple of utensil marks. The pattern has a floral center enclosed by two green bands. A central gilt band and gilt along the rim, and a scalloped edge. It has a"rim" shape with a depression in the center of the plate. The floral center on each piece is ever so slightly different…subtle numbers of buds or flowers distinguish one serving piece from another. View the closeup for the overglaze decal on this plate. The floral decal is overglaze and is unmarred. The plate has no cracks or crazing; it has one fleabite glaze ... morechip along the rim. For your consideration is a stunning SOLID SILVER STAMP. In rare MINT condition, based on the original issued within the CANAL ZONE during c1962. This beautifully crafted"FOUR-CENT THATCHER BRIDGE ERROR" exacted to the finest exquisite detail and measuring 16mm x 10mm, is one of the world’s greatest stamps and a wonderful collectors item or gift for a STAMP or SILVER enthusiast. On October 12th, 1962, a four-cent commemorative stamp was scheduled for issuance by the Canal Zone to mark the opening of the Thatcher Ferry Bridge spanning the Panama Canal. The design, depicting the linking of the two continents, was to be in black ink with the bridge superimposed in silver. During the printing process, one sheet stuck to the sheet above it and consequently missed the silver imprint of the bridge design. One pane of the sheet was discovered ... moreby H E Harris and Company of Boston, Massachusetts. The Canal Zone Postal Administration decided on an intentional printing of the error stamps but Harris filed suit against them seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction against the reprinting of this error. Three years later, Harris was successful. It was ruled that the Canal Zone had no lawful right to deliberately issue misprinted stamps merely to lower the price of philatelic rarities, and that to destroy the value of a citizen's property amounted to taking it without compensation and denying the citizen equal protection of the laws. Harris subsequently received the American Philatelic Society's John Luff Award for his efforts to protect the interests of the stamp collector. In 1980, a plate block of ten was purchased for $130,000. Catalogue value in 1983 for single copies, known only unused, were $10,000.
