The Sony PS-X7 is one of the finest fully automatic turntables ever made. It has a carbon fiber arm. A heavy metal plinth, viscous filled platter mat and feet. The speed is dead on with quartz lock. What do all of these things do for performance? The carbon fiber arm is light weight, but more importantly- it disrupts any EMI that can make its way through the thick metal plinth. It gives a very quiet performance allowing the music to come through- no grunge. The feet and platter mat absorb resonance like nobody’s business. In addition to the stock goodies from Sony I have damped the motor and plinth to reduce resonance even more. The platter is damped to keep the aluminum from ringing from any residual resonance. There is a plastic cover on the top side of the deck to allow access to the circuit board; the bottom of that was painted with a ... morecopper impregnated paint then an aluminum spray paint over that to minimalize any EMI generated by the motor on that side. To really up the performance ante the stock phono wire from the arm to the preamp has been replaced with cryo treated phono wire, it has Eichmann Silver Bullet ends. One more thing that was done, the strobe was very intermittent so I replaced the strobe light and the capacitor that was behind it- it works perfectly now. The sum of all of the features mentioned above is an excellent performing turntable, it has a very musical presentation, void of background his or hum.
