For your consideration are a pair of mid-19th Century blood-letting devices. Probably once part of a kit. It is rare to find a matching set in superb condition. The octagonal brass cube is for bleeding a patient. The large blackish lever is half cocked revealing 12 circular blades. The knob on top sets the depth of the cut. The lever is then fully cocked- the blades fully retract into the cube. Time for the bloodletting. The second device that looks like a tea pot is an alcohol lamp used to heat the inside of a dome-shaped cup. This heated air would create a suction when placed on the site to be bled(1 cup per every 4 oz of blood to be extracted) After about a minute. The cup would be quickly lifted from the swollen site and the scarificator would be put in place and the side trigger would release the tiny blades in the blink of a eye. The clear glass font is topped by removable brass wick mechanism inserted into the brass collar. Attached is a cap on a 3" chain used to snuff the flame. Overall it is 4-3/4" tall and the font has a 3" diameter. It is in very good condition. But I could not get the wick adjustment screw to turn. I have had many of these carriage style lamps with burners but have never had one with its chimney intact. Glass chimney id marked"PYREX" Lamp is made of brass with oval glass front lens and rectangular side lens with beveled glass in both pieces. Hinged rear door has a red glass"dot" lens. Lamp itself has some issues; lower finial deteriorated away. Both bottom and top sections has some dings. Brass piece between lamp body and front oval glass has stress cracking. Rectangular glass has a sliver off of its inner surface at upper corner(tried to picture this) Lamp has a darkened patina from age and use. As stated burner is the nicest part! Cobalt Blue Spherical Glass Jeweler's Antique Alcohol Lamp with Wick, 1880-1893
Here is a nice example of an antique jeweler's lamp in a deep shade of cobalt blue glass with the embossed date on the spherical globe of. Ptd. date Sept.14, 1880-March 14, 1893. The surface of the metal I believe is nickle plated over brass and there is some period wear to the surface with the brass showing through. The wick with its chain is intact. It is approximately 7.5 inches tall, and 3.5 inches diameter for the globe. This looks great as an accessory on an old desk or conversation piece. Hard to find without missing pieces or chipping.

Alcohol Vapor Burner Lamp/Stove by Landers. Frary& Clark.1906-08 I am including this information supplied by a great Ebay member. It is a self pressurizing stove like the Optimus 8R. It was originally designed to run on ethanol(drinking) alcohol but will run very nicely on methanol alcohol(used as auto dry gas) DO NOT drink methanol alcohol as it can cause blindness and/or death. Caution make sure the gasket around the filler hole is good. You can get a fiber gasket at the hardware store to replace if it is not. You can use the little pump built in to add fuel to the primer pan but suggest using a dropper to save wear and tear on that little pump. it does work though. Pull that round thing off top and you will see burner. A welding torch tip cleaner may be handy to clean holes/jets. Or piece of steel guitar string. Be careful not to enlarge ... moreholes. Wheel raises and lowers a cover to adjust flame. This stove is awesome to see in operation. It is safer to light and effective as a Coleman stove.

There is no reserve on this amazing Jeweler’s Alcohol lamp. We are offering this most unusual Jeweler’s or Watchmaker’s alcohol lamp with an embossed patent date of 1880 and 1883 on the beautiful aqua colored glass ball. This lamp comes with the original base and wick which usually are lost over time. The fittings on the lamp are brass with a fine chain holding the wick cap. These lamps were used by the jeweler for many tasks in his work. Including soldering and melting wax. They were sold with the sort of“egg cup” base wherein the ball sat loosely for ease in turning. They were meant to burn alcohol and not oil. The patent numbers were acquired by John Purdy of Chicago. These are quite rare items and a must for the collector. Unknown Glass Alcohol Lamp/ Blowpipe– This unidentified. Small glass alcohol blowpipe was probably included in early chemistry sets requiring the heating of powders and liquids to initiate or sustain reactions. The popularity of early chemistry sets, and the necessity for heat to conduct many of the experiments, made these little blowtorches invaluable. They were sold both with the sets or as stand-alone replacement blowpipes. The glass container is one inch in diameter and about 2 inches in height. The cap and blowpipe holder are made of tin. The blowpipe is made of brass. By compressing the holder. Pressure is relieved on the blowpipe permitting the upper tip to be raised or lowered to the flame as required by the operator.
