This lathe came to me in about 8 pieces as removed from a small ship.I started cleaning.Painting and reassembling of some parts.I have never seen this lathe run. All the hyd. controls and pulleys are gone! There are many good parts included with this lathe, 3 jaw chuck,4 jaw independent chuck,Taper turning attachment,Follower rest,2 face plates and a good assortment of tooling.The bed ways appear to have had some gouges/dents filled in at a few places. The good news: Includes 8" 3 jaw chuck(mounted) 10" 4 jaw chuck, Drive plate(not pictured) Aloris BXA tool post, 1) BXA1, 1) BXA4, 1) cut off blade holder(no marking) New(Clausing) lower drive belt, used original lower drive belt(in useable condition) used upper drive belt in useable condition, ways all look good, 3hp, 220/440v, 3ph motor. The bad news: The variable speed drive is bad, all the typical Clausing problems. I have new bushing and drive keys from Clausing. The lower variable speed pulley keyway is cracked, will need repaired or replaced. The upper variable speed pulley just needs epoxy recoated. The brake discs are good. The clock spring in the speed adjust housing needs replaced, I rebent the end just to try the lathe out, the hydraulic cylinder was working, new parts are available also. I had this lathe running briefly ... morebefore disassembling it. Gearing for normal and back gear was ok, tried out some of the threading feeds and lifted the cover off the change gear box, everything looked ok. Original Clausing manual is included, very good parts views and adjustment details. Everything this lathe needs replaced is available from Clausing. Lots if alternative repair information on the internet. The brake/clutch arm bracket on the right side of the carriage apron is broken, the headstock arm is ok. Powered by 230v 3 phase two speed motor 3HP with hyd unit for tracer and untested coolant pump in base. 35-1500 rpm and threading 4-112 tpi with quick change gearbox. Acessories and tooling: 6" 3 Jaw reversible chuck. 10" 4 Jaw chuck, follow rest, lantern toolpost with 5ea holders, Live Center, original thread dial, drill chuck on MT3, Hydraulic tracer attachment on back side of carriage, and chip guard. The tracer attachment is untested and missing one center to mount pattern. This allows either a round or flat template to be installed behind the bed and the tracer will duplicate it. CLAUSING LATHE 5902 12"x24" Metal cutting machine tool
Here we have a used Clausing model 5902 engine lathe. I think its a 12"x24" size. It has a 3 phase 1 HP. motor. Serial No. 50866. I aquired it, and never got a phase converter to run it. Previous owner said everything on it worked good. Bed ways look good, not all beat up etc. It does not have a chuck, but has a faceplate,and some hub parts that look like they go on the spindle. A set of collets should be coming with, as I find them Ill post pictures of them. Machine looks good, could use a cleaning,and service. Comes as you see it,with what you see,with the exception, of a collet set. Spindle mount is a threaded collar nut with a taper key style, not sure what the proper name is. For sale is a Clausing 5914 variable-speed lathe. I purchased it about 10 years ago from another gentleman in Los Angeles who had it as his hobby lathe. It's been my hobby lathe since then. As you can tell. This lathe is extremely clean, and comes with a lot of tooling. The lathe is functionally excellent. The ways are clean, without any rust, and the cross slide and compound are smooth. The variable speed drive is in great shape and problem free.
