I used one of these meters in the early 80's and it compared favorably to my 2203/1613/4144 I was amazed because we paid a lot less for the Quest kit and it didn't break down as much(meter neck problems threads stripped or jammed) and when we sent it in to Anaheim(after a while no longer in business) we were always told it needed a new 4144 and the charged us to repaint it $400.00,$ 1100.00 for new microphone. These meters are very rugged and reliable. Everything in the pictures is included hand held meter can be used for frequency measuring. I used it for testing PREAMPS as well as cassette deck/Walkman/open reel PLAYBACK HEAD AZIMUTH AJDUSTMENTS. I stole the stereo LED bar graph meter(and IC driver circuit) out of an old tape deck or receiver that I gutted& salvaged for parts. I found this a few weeks ago in an old parts bin and it was dead. I opened it up and found an old homemade/soldered 3.6V NiCAD pack that was all corroded and long since direly deceased LOL. None of the corrosion corrupted the inside of the enclosure, so I just ripped out the old epoxied NiCAD pack and installed ... morea 2AA battery holder(3VDC) with a convenient 9V clip on the end. I loaded 2 size AA Duracells, flipped the rear toggle switch and PRESTO! ALL the LED’s lit up across the scale. This is the default power indication you get until you actually inject audio signal. The meter is made to be driven with LINE LEVEL or LOW POWER AUDIO, in the range of 200mW to 2000mW. It is PERFECT for testing/repairing/aligning Ipods, MP3 players, Walkmans, Discmans, tape decks and preamps. There is still my old hand written sticker label on the bottom(LOL) that gives the pinout for 1/8” and ¼” stereo plugs as follows: LEFT=WHITE=TIP/RIGHT=RED=MID SHAFT/Gnd-Shield-Black=Inner shaft. The rear toggle switch is POWER. Audio may be injected in TWO ways…via the ¼” stereo jack(you can use a 1/4” to 1/8” stereo adapter)OR through the color coded spring terminals, exactly the same as many stereo receivers and speakers use for speaker terminals. General Radio Sound Level Meter 1551-A(Ca. 1952) The Sound Level Meter is the basic instrument of a sound measuring system. Born in the'30's as the result of the joint effort of several technical societies interested in standardizing' acoustic noise measurements. Its usages have grown constantly as mans’ environment has become noisier. The 1551-A is the result of design efforts to minimize a reliable sound measurement system—for the early 1950’s that is. This unit is not totally inclusive with all its parts. It is missing the cover and some cables of which I cannot identify. I did test it and found the meter to work when the instrument was turned ON(microphone in upright position) and the Meter Batteries switch is in the FIL position. The dial on the meter moves to“9” It does this for one reason that I installed 2“D” cell batteries ... moreto run the meter. I do not have the required and working 67 ½ volt battery to run the meter. The old 67 ½ volt battery which is not leaking is still in its functional position within the Meter housing. The Operating Instructions for this Meter can be found at the following WEB site and can be printed from there. This is a Navy Document titled: OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS· NAVSHIPS 94230. The Vintage U. S. Navy Meter is still in nice cosmetic condition so it is a“Looker” which can be displayed and admired as a piece of U.S. Navy history. Thus. It is a very nice collectable! This unit will be packaged quite well with adequate buffering and stability so as to minimize any possibility of breakage during shipment. A lot of jostling in shipping can possibly break the unit. Up for auction is a used Quest Technologies SoundPro DL-2 Sound Level Meter with a QC-10 Calibrator. Both units are in good physical condition with just some light scuffs on the SoundPro and some dents in the calibrator. Both units power on. The SoundPro reacts to sound level changes and all of the buttons work. The Calibrator makes and noise and the SoundPros bars jump around.
