This is a nearly pristine model H05-334A harmonic distortion analyzer. This H05 option model(paraphrasing from the HP spec sheet) contains a switchable low pass filter to reduce the effect of unwanted high frequencies(noise. Etc. when measuring low frequency signals with high accuracy. This model has an AM detector covering from 550 kHz to 65 MHz at carrier levels as low as 1 volt. In other words for the transmitter operator the distortion of the transmitted AM signal can be accurately determined with this instrument. Plugged it in and it lights up but I'm not a tech and don't know how to test all its functions, I did find out that these type of analyzers may need to be calibrated from time to time, so it is sold as is. HP 334A Distortion Analyzer This HP 334A Distortion Analyzer has been an excellent. Accurate and reliable piece of test equipment on my work bench for last 8 years. It has had no problems at all. It is very useful for accurate calibration, adjustment or analysis of amplifier characteristics and behavior(setting bias. Making circuit adjustments, prototyping, designing, troubleshooting, etc. All functions work properly on this unit. Although the spec says that it measures harmonic distortion down to 0.1% from 5 Hz to 600 kHz. The analyzer is capable of measuring down to 0.03% I have actually seen this when probing a Class-A vacuum tube amplifier with the filter switch applied and an originating signal generator producing a very clean sine-wave injected into the circuit! Please note that this auction is for the HP334A Distortion Analyzer and ... morenot the Tektronix oscilloscope shown in the photo. The oscilloscope in the photos is being used to demonstrate that the HP334A is in good working condition. AMBER 3501a Distortion and noise analyzer test set
Up for auction is a nice Amber Test set. Model 3501a. I've owned this for about 6 years and it has served me well. I also own other Tektronix, Fluke and H/P equipment and have decided to let some of my extra equipment go. This works well and has been used on and off since I've owned it. The only items to note about it is that it is missing the original button cap for the"Ground" switch(I've put a small white cap in it's place) It also has a bit of haziness to the meter face, not enough to keep from being able to read the meter, but not perfectly clear. All functions work and although I can't guarantee any type of calibration, it does give similar results for distortion and level as my Tektronix and Fluke equipment. I've never opened it and it still has the seals intact from what ever calibration it had in ... morethe past. No mods have been done and it does not include any factory options either. A copy of the Owners/ Service manual is included on CD. The manual(about 180 pages) goes into depth on operation, custom filters, calibration and includes schematics and parts lists. Heathkit IM-58 Audio analyzer, I.M. Distortion Meter
This is for parts and as is. It does power on. The meter moved around a bit. However, I have no way to verify it works. Someone modded it by adding a switch at the input labelled"Hi-Z and 600 Ohm(probably a good thing) Someone also put a hole in the top of the unit(see picture) maybe to adjust a pot inside? I did not open the unit. The case is stained and a bit dirty but could be cleaned up with some elbow grease. If your a tech or a ham then you know what your looking at and what it is used for. As I recall if your trying to measure harmonic distortion in an HF rig this is a tool you need. This might be a great project or you can use for parts for another unit. Vintage Hewlett Packard HP 334a Distortion Analyzer parts repair project
Hewlett Packard 334a Distortion analyzer. Has optional DC supply inputs. Comes with mounting ears. Retired from a radio station and has been in storage for several years. Unknown calibration state. I don't have the necessary RF test gear to really check this for operation. So all I've done is plug it in, turn it on and verify that it doesn't blow fuses. Unit is being sold AS IS for repair. The inside is very clean however, so it shouldn't be too difficult a job to get it up to spec. I do note that the slip pin connectors are very tarnished, so I'd start there first. Outside is typical of a unit that saw commercial use, i.e. lots of scratches and the edges. Mild corrosion on the aluminum bits. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The Models 334A include two control loops that automatically tune both legs of a bridge circuit which rejects the fundamental when the rejection circuit is initially set within the range of the loops. A high impedance detector which operates from 500 Kc to greater than 65 Mc provides the capability of monitoring the distortion of the amplitude modulation on an rf carrier. Distortion levels of 0.1% to 100% full scale are measured in seven ranges for any fundamental frequency ... moreof 5 cps to 600 Kc. Harmonics are indicated up to 3Mc. It is in great condition for being roughly 25-30 years old. Everything works properly. I will NOT say this is calibrated to any standard. I did run it for over a week straight after cleaning it so that everything had a chance to settle in and prove itself over time. Everything looks great on my bench, in my lab, in my home. And they have not been modified. From my own bench. Here's a very nice, working, tested HP 334A. I used it for audio testing, and verified that it is in spec at 100Hz, 1K, 10K, and 30KHz. It is utterly reliable. The automatic null function works great, and once it locks on it just doesn't budge; rock steady. The voltmeter has likewise been tested and verified accurate, using a Fluke meter for comparison. In day to day use, I have not found it to have any operational issues. Cosmetically. This one is very nice. The front face is nearly free of scratches and dings, and the screen printing is sharp and clear. Even the top rail, which usually gets beat to snot, ... moreis almost free of scratches. There are some scratches, of course(side panel under the handle) which I have tried to highlight in the photos. Please examine the photos and see what you think. Note that this is a"later generation" 334A. Early versions used a proprietary oval plug on the AC cord. But these later production models use a standard IEC connector(the same type used on most computers) I'll include one with this unit, even though you probably have too many already!
