Up for auction is a vintage Hurd Super Caster rod/reel combo. The reel has a serial# of 77925. It is in good working condition. Everything is smooth as it should be. The rod/reel measures 5" from the tip of the rod to the end of the handle. The checkered wood handle has no cracks or splits. Hey there! I am selling this absolutely awesome vintage Hurd Super Caster rod and reel combo. Combo measures 5 feet total with aluminum reel and walnut handle attached to the 4 eyelet steel rod. The reel is one of the coolest models I've ever seen. It cranks nice and smooth and is in good overall physical and mechanical condition aside from missing a small cap on the left side(see pics) The pistol grip and walnut handle are a collectors favorite due to the uniqueness and flat out bad-ass esthetic. This vintage Hurd Super Caster rod and reel combo is a beautiful work of art. M ade in the USA in 1945- 1947 by the Hurd Lock& Manufacturing Co. of Detroit. Michigan, i t looks like a piece of art deco industrial design custom-made for Batman. According to Fishing Tackle Retailer magazine: At $45[that's $575 today] The Supercaster was not for everyone. It was a work of art; an all-in-one combination of a machined, aluminum reel, a sturdy walnut grip(in early models) and a rod crafted from surplus World War II tank antennas.T] he Supercaster reel bears some similarities to the company’s wartime product. The reel is solidly constructed; the moving parts still work with the precision of a fine lock. The reel is what you might expect from a watch maker: if that watch maker made really heavy watches. If that watch maker wanted to make ... moresure their watches never, ever broke. Nobody seems to know for sure exactly which tank the antennas were originally designed for. The reel seems to work fine. I do not see any missing parts. See photos for wear. The mark is not completely legible. Also see repair on the end rod guide. This is very solid and the wood pistol handle has crisscross carved design and in great condition. I don't know if the rod is to separate from the reel but this rod is not going anywhere.
